Have you found any great coins in out-of-the-way places?

Let's share some stories about finding coins in out-of-the-way places, for example flea markets, antique shops, or overseas.

I'll go first. I just came back from a coin vacation in Dublin, Ireland. Included in my bag of souvenirs were no less than a DOZEN Saint Patrick farthings and TWO (very scarce) Saint Patrick HALFPENNIES. I also found a few Voce Populi halfpennies and a choice AU 1787 NJ cent!

My wife and I were traveling in Pennsylvania a few years ago where we stopped at a local flea market. A coin dealer was there and my wife saw a large cent that caught her eye. He was only asking a $1.00 and ask me what I thought. I told her for $1.00 you can't go wrong. It turned out to be a 1795 Large Cent. I sent it to PCGS and it got the coveted PO-01 grade and I sold it to Braddick for his collection. You can see it in his best of the worst collection.

At a flea market in New York, I purchased an 1880-S Morgan for $20. Cleaned it up, PCGS graded it MS66.
    Collecting since 1976.
  • Cleaned it up? how did you do this?
