How do I deal with this negative feedback?

I bought a Peace dollor off of ebay. My one and only. I didn't expect to get much from this guy, I just wanted one for my small collection of "unslabbed" coins. I paid 1 day after the auction. The auction ended 1/7/03. After two emails from the Seller giving me excuses why I had not received the coin, I filed a complaint with PayPal. Please note: The complaint form was filed with PayPal on 2/1/03. I received the coin two days later. I filed negative feedback for the seller. He returned the "favor" the next day. A couple of weeks went by, and then the seller posted this followup in my feedback:

Follow-up by mrat@quik.com - WE ARE DEALING W/THIS ONE!KEPT COIN!TRYS TO CHARGE BACK!FRAUD!PURSUEING!

I have no problem with his negative feedback, but that followup statment really upsets me.

I thought PayPal would contact me. I left my email address and telephone number with them on the complaint form. I would have gladly told them I finally received this coin. They never contacted me, but I now find that they did try to charge back on this. I found the proper link on my account history page and told PayPal that the coin had finally been delievered. End of complaint. No charge back was made.

Now I have paid $20.00 to Square trade to try to clean this mess up. The Seller has stated I did not buy insurance. Again, not true. The PayPal receipt has insurance paid.

The Seller has emailed me and agreed to remove his feedback only if I remove mine. I have not agreed to this and I am waiting for a mediator to contact me. I don't care about the negative feedback, just the followup comment. I feel like I am being blackmaiked into removing my negative feedback.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this would be appreciated, as I have never had any problem like this before.

Thanks to all who respond.

What seller is this? I need to add them to my never do business with list.

Respond to the comment with a simple "Retaliatory feedback is childish. You should have shipped what I paid for."

In the interim, keep working with Squaretrade. I've found them useless, but maybe you'll get better results.

Bummer, you jumped the gun on this one - some questions for you

    - the sellers e-mails, did they say a ship date?
    - what was the postmark on the envelope/package?
    - paypal gives 30 days, but post office insurance doesn't do anything until after 30 days -> was item insured?
    - Can you respond to his response to your feedback?

if you can leave something like "I apologize, coin did arrive, chargeback stopped"

    - I really don't think feedback can be changed, even if both agree -> safeharbor probably gets around that but $20? eBay is finding more ways all the time to suck money from people.

Geez, I just checked this seller, and they have 124 neutrals and 91 negatives, with 15 negs in the last month. More importantly, they also posted retaliatory feedback on every bidder who dared post even a neutral.

    bulloncoins,

This is one I never would have done business with even before you posted this.

Never got a ship date from seller in his emails. Only excuses. ie"...large loss in Morgan silver and Peace silver dollars. We are seeking to recover our loss with insurance coverage. This is what held up your item being shipped to you."

I am not sorry for trying to protect myself with the PayPal complaint form after waiting so long for the coin.

I threw the package away that it arrived in, never thinking I would need to keep it. However, I did pay for insurance. He should have the records which would show the postmarked date.

I no longer have any ability to post a reply on this one.

I agree with your last statement. This was one of my first Ebay deals. Believe me the education was worth the money! As new as I was to ebay, I didn't appreicate the whole feedback thing. Now I do.

  • image The only feed back from him should have been positive for paying so promptly, the next email to you should have been when he shipped the coin and telling you he appreciated the fast payment of the coin.
Things could have been tracked from that point after the sale. It can leave a sour taste in your mouth, as that I had an experience of that same nature through Amazon a year ago.

  • You should never neg someone like that until 90 days after the sale then they will not be able to respond or retaliate unless they happen to catch it the day you did it.
  • Thanks RR...I'll keep that in mind if I ever run accross anything like this again. But I have to say, except for this one deal I have been VERY VERY happy with the coins I purchased off of EBAy, and the people I have delt with have been Straight Arrows all the way.

is my math correct? 1 out of every 10 people that deals with this guy is not particularly thrilled with the experience? In day to day dealings with people, I believe they get referred to as a$$holes, alot.

I am sooooooo glad I never bought from that seller. What a dick!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I have been REAL lucky as I have never had to give anybody a neutral much less a neg. (knock on wood) but I read in another post about a year ago where if you have to it is best to wait until the last day so they cannot retaliate. I read some of that guys feedback and he has 205 neutrals and negs and they all say about the same thing and his responses are all about the same the buyers are liars and he is the only honest one. When it comes to dealing with those type of people it is pretty much a no win situation.
  • Is his seller name a condensed version of "M Rat", or of "Mr AT"?image

Either way, that practice of combining shipments with full individual charges sucksimage and I agree with the others who say they wouldn't deal with this guy!

    What's going on here?

  • is my math correct? 1 out of every 10 people that deals with this guy is not particularly thrilled with the experience?

    (124 neuts + 91 negs) / (3021 pos + 124 neuts + 91 negs) = 6.6% or 1 in 15 are not positive experiences.

This seller is now on my DNDBWL (do not do business with list)
  • Seems a lot of people have got their first and only neg from this guy. He is definitely going on my "Do not buy from" list.

I love the way he tells everyone who has a complaint to "learn how ebay works". Let's see, you receive payment via paypal right after the auction, and you take 3-4 weeks to ship the item? Is that how ebay works? This guy is a total sleazeball and has even retaliated with negatives to buyers who left him less than glowing positives. Always look at the feedback of a seller you haven't dealt with before. People like this are to be avoided at all costs. He sure has his user ID right- a rat.

Any Decent seller would give a positive feedback when funds are received (I do). That's the way it should be.

Marty, I disagree with you. Just as there are sleazebag sellers, there are sleazy buyers. It took one time for me, a buyer trying to extort a partial refund and keep the coin, that I changed my policy. I won't leave feedback for the buyer until he either posts feedback, or emails me letting me know the item was received. I also had a situation where I left feedback for the buyer, the item was lost, I refunded his money, and he returned the courtesy by not filling out his portion of the insurance claim.
