I almost don't want to ask...AT or Real

The recent threads on AT vs. "Real" toned coins have been very educational. What does everyone think of this 1923 Peace Dollar that has quite a bit of yellow and green around the edges and pink /blue/reddish color on the obverse ?

Judging from the photo, I'm going to lean towards real toning and not AT. From what I've seen, 1923s seem to tone more than the other dates. The way the color lays does not cause me much concern. However, I'm only going with 85% confidence on this one. Mostly because I cannot see it in front of me.
  • Looks to ugly to be AT, sorry but i don't like the looks of it, I'm sure there are lots of people that would be attracted to that but i'm not.

more really than fakey, but not obvious either way, nor particularly attractive.

a good example of grade (and in my opinion) value neutral toning, coin value = numeric grade value or close to it.

may get a bit of a premium from someone looking for toned peace. does it have a mintmark?

Real -- just dirty looking though. How's the luster, if thats nice then it's probably a nice coin. Almost all toning on Peace $ will be considered ugly by most. Those that understand toned Peace $ image will realize attractively toned coins are extremely hard to find. These just don't tone like other coins with beautiful rainbows and such.

If you want a toned Peace $ that's pretty, wait for the March 9th, Teletrade Rainbow Auction, theres about 2 dozen, mostly NGC 1924 MS65 that are going to be available.

    Clevegreg,

How are you? Will you make the LB show?

I'm definitely in the learning mode when it comes to Peace Dollars so I'll pass on taking a stab at this one. Forum members such as FrattLaw are much more qualified than I in this area. In fact, I hope to learn some from him at the show when I get a look at his toned Peace Dollars.

    Thanks for the post.
