RYK, thanks for the compliment! This coin is just too close for me too call but I am thinking AU58 but a low MS grade would not suprise me as it does have good luster in the right places. It's worth pretty good money in a 62 holder so a 62 would make my day- oh yeah it's on it's way to NGC along with a couple more $10 liberty's and a few $5 liberty's. mike
Its a nice coin. With the usual disclaimer about grading the photo/scan and not the actual coin, it looks as if there is enough chatter in the fields to warrant an AU58 grade. Its close, but I think it falls alittle short from an ms60/61. Whatever, the outcome, its still a keeper.

Where do you buy raw gold (not specifically--I do not want to scioop your source)? I am thinking of making my first adventure into rare raw gold (via an upcoming auction) but quite frankly I am a bit afraid.
RYK- from reading your posts on this forum you seem very knowledgeable about gold coins and you should not be afraid to bid. I get stuck with junk every once in while from an auction but I usually don't talk about that end of it. mike
I like the luster on it. Makes me think 62, though, cause of the ticks. But overall I think it's attractive. I've been fortunate on my raw gold purchases, but I'm still wary of spending too much on raw gold.
That would be great to get a 63 as i think there have only been a couple certified at 63 but I think I will just expect an AU58 so I don't get my hopes up. mike
NGC just posted the grades on some of my gold coins and the $10 1884-S did very well along with some other very nice grades. I cracked the $5 1902-S out of an ACG MS63 holder and it got the 63 it deserved- I'll post a picture later and I think you will agree. Here's the whole submission. Mike

I'd say MS61, but with raw gold there is always the "Cleaned or Whizzed" option...
