PayPal Question unvarified

Good Day to all!
What would you do? I sold an auction last weekend and the winner paid via PayPal when I went to print the packing slip the address came up as UNVARIFIED I have e-mailed this person every day for a week but no responce They elected no insurance for the package.
1 would you send it and hope it got there
2 would you wait and keep e-mailing
3 ??????
I thought I had read about a scam about unvarified address but I can't remember
Thanks
Paul

  • Paul- An unverified mailing address simply means the buyer refuses to register a credit card to the Paypal account. When I had buyers with unverified mailing addresses, I had to take an additional step to accept the payment. In that step, Paypal reveals to you how many payments the buyer has completed through Paypal. Personally, if that number has some volumn to it, then I accept the payment, send the buyer his positive feedback and mail the coin. Good luck! image

Edit: Ignore first, misread your post. As long as the address is confirmed, the above advice is sound.

  • if your buyer has zero feedback, you might be concerned, but if a good clean record, and has bought similarly priced items, why would you be the only one to get burned?

  • Pay the little extra and send USPS return signature.
  • I also do that (when I purchase and use Paypal). I always use my P.O. Box address as I do not want everyone knowing my home address (when you first sign up, Paypal requires your billing address to verify your credit card, but you can bypass it).

Like DCAMF mentioned, look at how many completed transactions the person has if it makes you feel better. However, the person bought it, paid you and will now be waiting for the coin, so I would send it.

  • I signed up for PayPal years ago and generally never give my CC information out. I am still "Unverified" according to Paypal but haven't missed a payment. I did have someone who refused to budge because he would only accept payment from someone with a verified addresses, I ended up sending him a check.

If the person has good Ebay feedback and his feedback rating is high on Paypal, I'd give the person the benefit of the doubt.

I am one of those unverified people because I refuse to give them my checking account number. My account is strickly credit card. With a credit card the person is protected by law to a loss of no greater than $50. There is no such protection for checking account, so I simply refuse. If paypal has said they have credited your account, you should be able to verify it, and if so send the item. If you don't want to accept payments from unvarified users, say so in your write-up, so people like me don't bid on your items.

  • Tony is correct. An unverified account means the buyer has refused to provide PayPal with a checking account number. You can use credit cards all day long, but you remain unvarified unless you give them a checking account number. They even state that they rely on the banks, because banks always verify addresses. Alot of people only purchase with credit cards for the extra protection, knowing they can always stop a credit card payment. It not so easy to stop a automatic withdrawl.

    GTOster-
Your ? is unclear-is the buyer unverified or rather has an unconfirmed address?
Unverified, as others have said, simply means he didn't register a checking account and is no reason for alarm.
Unconfirmed means that he has not provided a confirmable address and could be pulling a possible scam on you.

Especially if he won't reply to your inquires. Possible ripoff!! Be cautious in this deal! PayPal won't help you if you get ripped off shipping to an unconfirmed address.

In your PayPal account go to Profile/selling preferences/payment preferences and there is a box you can check to block payment from unconfirmed addresses and you won't have to worry about this in the future.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    UPDATE
I was able to get a phone # off of paypal dailed it up and it goes to a Auto dealer I think I'll just put this package to the side for a while
to see if they will reply to e-mail I also left a message on the machine so lets see if I get a reply IT just might be a SCAM If a get a neg on feedback OH WELL I'll fell better about it knowing I foiled a scam artists day. For all who asked the address is unvarified his feedbacks on Ebay are less than steller.
    Again Thanks to all

  • GTOster - you failed to mention the dollar value of the sale, and what your risk tolerence is ($10 to some people may be equivalent to $1000 to other people) - are you shipping to a home address or PO Box, can you verify the name with address somewhere on the net?

I had an unverified account for a long time UNTIL they got a credit card number from me - they had my checking account number and I was buying and selling and moving cash through there periodically.

bulluncoin - PAYPAL was the opposite for me, they needed a credit card billing address to verify the account.

The bank account verifies it and the credit card confirms it because the credit card billing address must match the shipping address.

I have an additional checking account set up strictly for paypal. I have had 5.11 in it for Months and nothing more. I've heard too many horror stories on here about accounts being frozen, etc.

If I can't use my CC, I will mail the seller a check or MO.
