Do you remember games of chance at dealers tables? Why not now?

I use to go to card shows where there was always a game of chance, wheel, etc that would
draw in a lot of people to gamble on a card or group. I don't see them at coin shows, why not?

Why not give all kids a free sample? Would be appreciated by the parents. Again, get the traffic
to stop at your table.

More can and should be done to promote numismatics to youngsters. I walk the aisles of coin shows with a roll of Buffs and give one to every kid I come across -- with their parents' permission, of course.

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I remember the games of chance at card shows. Spinning a wheel or picking a mystery envelope. Once my friend and I set up a Nintendo game and had kids hit homers for cards at our card table.

With coin shows, there are too many adults and less children. Games of chance would probably be perceived as interfering with the big sales to the adults. At least in this part of the country (New England), I don't see many kids collecting coins. Not many are going to coin shows. I haven't seen many dealers trying to promote the hobby to kids at shows because they are trying to recoup their show costs. If it takes 10 minutes to play a game of chance to get a couple of bucks, it doesn't seem to make sense financially.

    Just my thoughts.

  • I've been able to get two or three kids interested in coin collecting by simply giving away coins that I obtain through bulk purchases or other means that are G4 or a little better but don't fit into my collection.

The kids love them, it gets them interested, and the church gets a few dollars less each year.
