Merc Folks, getting harder to stay in the top 20

I just added my first pop 1 coin, 1918-P MS66. I know there are quite a number of FB66s and one FB67, but in my little world this is still a pop 1 coin.

I am hanging on in 15th place. It is good to see so many Merc collectors being actively collecting!

We need more Merc threads... time for everyone to wake up again (including myself) and keep our Merc dialog going.

Hi DeepCoin,

Nice addition to your set. Just went and had a look, you've got a really nice collection! I was truely blown away. While not as expensive, collecting a no band set is probably almost as difficult as a FB set.

I'm giving you advance notice though, I'm heading your way. Soon you won't need your mirrors to see me! ;-) image

Nice addition DC. That's a very nice pop1. My only pop1 (I think it still is) is a 20-S in 66 no bands. It's a really nice coin and one of my prize possessions. The 18P is tuff in high grade, so I'm sure it is one of your prize possessions also.

Wayne,

Thanks for the comments, and just toot your horn as you pass me by! I am done for a little while, having blown my coin budget on the 18-P (and gladly so!). But I am here for the long haul.

Appreciation to Jon at RCNH who has helped me with my set a number of times. He is at the top of my list of dealers and good guys.

• DC,
nice addition, and I know what you mean trying to stay up in the top 20, the way it looks, I may fall past you by years end....image

But like you, I am in it for long haul, and the friends this will create along the way. Just having a great time with it!

I am number 14 on the list and I want you to STOP ADDING COINS!!! I can feel your breath on the back of my neck so STOP ADDING COINS!!! Especially stop adding pop 1 coins!!! As a matter of fact, I believe you must get permission from me and from Pat (ptvetter) before you are allowed to add any more coins!!!

P.S.: Nice find! image

Hey Rick thats a nice addition and not a real easy date to find. It must be great to be able to keep adding dimes. I've been stuck so long in the same position and its really getting boring. Did buy a couple of mercs on Ebay but they are NGC dimes.

Good to see a couple of you guys back here on the forum. I thought everyone had vacated this place.

Take Care.

Deep Coin and I went to high school together, nice to see a fellow classmates doing so well on the same registry set.
What do you think the chances are to have two people from the same high school class or 66 in the same registry set??

Pat:

What a bizarre coincidence! Talk about a small world. (My "small world" coincidence is not as pleasant--the topic of last weekend's flames, Aswimmer, lives in the same small city that I grew up in. But I moved away 25 years ago.) Anyway, did you guys know each other back then?

• Congrats on the great addition, DC.
I think we're in the middle of one of the most active registry series.

I just added a gorgeous MS67FB '38-D that I recieved from Colorfulcoins. It's getting hard to stay ahead of Pat.
Ken, put your drool protector on. I'll try to get a pic. up later. image

• Nice addition to your set. I know those early years are hard to find and a bit costly too.
Keep up the good work.

Pat I'm not so sure, outside of one guy, that any of the people I graduated with even know what a Winged Liberty Dime is. The one person is partially responsible for getting me started in this madness. I think he has given up collecting all together though. A few years back he found out that a bunch of his Indian Cents were way over graded and after that lost all trust in coin dealers. Most of his coins were bought in the 70's and early 80's.

Don the two NGC coins I bought have a bunch of color also, going by the scans that is. One in particular should be real pretty, I think. I'll whip a scan up here also if it is. Heck I'll put one up even if it is not. image

Take Care Guys and Keep Posting.

DC,
I agree whole-heartedly with your comment about Jon. He's top-notch in my view also.

Hey Al and Ken,
Maybe we can get together in Santa Clara come April. If we can get Craig to come up and Aaron to come out, we could have a real Merc "'hoedown"! imageimage

I especially like that '39-S, Don. Aaron always seems to have good material on eBay.

I'm attaching a picture of a toned '42-P that I got on eBay recently. It has great reverse color. Look familiar, Ken?image We were butting heads on this one. All's fair in love and war (and eBay). image

Arrgh !!! Dang Nabbit !!! I lost that to a Fellow Merc Collector. @#$*&! !!!!!

Jim not really that was just in jest above. I really hate to butt heads with people I have known through these forums or through Ebay. Most coins are not Life and Death with me so if this happens with anyone else just let me know and I will back off.

Well MOST of The Time !!

Another of those under 30 buck coins. NGC66FB and Nice. Of course the colors are more vibrant but I tried taking this photo with just plain Cloud Light as we do not have Sun Light in Oregon.

• I'm not even back a week and I'm already getting bumped! Have mercy will ya! Hey anyone got a spare 39-S in 63FB or 35-S in 64FB that you wouldn't mind parting with?
• remumcremumc Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭
Hey Mercury1,

No fair whining, you bumped me first, when you made your "re-entrance"! image ;D I had just moved into that spot the day before, so I had to inforce the "bumped back one, jump up two" rule!
