What do the numbers on a slab mean?

Are they code for anything or just random serial numbers?

Thanks.

The number on the left is the PCGS coin number, and it's the same for all coins of that issue. For example,
all 1938-D Buffalo nickels are coin # 3984. The number to the right of the decimal point, i.e. immediately following the PCGS coin number is the grade. So a 1938-D Buffalo nickel in MS65 would be coin # 3984.65.
The larger number on the right is the individual certification number for that coin. Each coin has its own unique cert number.
