I like white coins and buy white coins--Does this mean I am buying doctored coins?

David,

I love the look of a newly or freshly minted coin. Most of my Mercury Dimes are white. Are all white coins doctored, or is this conservation? Someone once told me all white coins are cleaned. I have opened many rolls of silver Roosevelts and found blast white coins. With this in mind, I buy white Mercury dimes. Is this a bad thing, good thing, neutral thing?

Hi Tony...I too have opened many bank-wrapped rolls and found them to be full of blast white coins. I believe that the majority of white coins have never been dipped. I also don't view light dipping of silver coins as doctoring.

Toning is quite a different story. I believe that somewhere between 20% and 40% of all toned coins have been artificially enhanced in some way...David
