Yahoo auctions that automatically extend

Has anyone else seen this? I was bidding on a Morgan and as usual I only bid during the last 30 seconds or so. Placed my bid at less than a minute to go, checked the clock and them checked the auction and the D**N thing had some kinda self extending feature that kicked the aution out for another 5 minutes. Sat around visualizing how to tar and feather a potato while waiting for the 5 minutes to pass, got outbid, waited for the less than 1 minute ticker and I swooped in again for the kill and the D**n thing did it again...So I gave up...........

  • I thought Ebay had that feature at one time... or was it Ubid? hmm... Anyone remember?

What Auction Preferences are available at submission time? When you submit your auctions, you have several options as to how the auction will run, when it will close, and much more.
Auto-Extension: In an offline auction, the auction continues as long as the bidding continues. This is considered the "going, going, gone..." period. Sellers can opt to continue their auctions as long as bidding continues, or choose to have a "hard close time," in which the auction ends at exactly the time you specify.

When this anti-snipe feature has been activated, there is a note saying so at the bottom of the auction information section. imageimageimage

I think eBay needs this feature too. But does it increase, or decrease the final values? I would assume it would increase them by provoking bidders to place a higher maximum bid in order to win instead of relying on the cheap snipe tactic (though I'm guilty of that myself image)
  • Initially, it would increase final prices by a decent amount. After a few weeks, the final prices will still be slightly higher; but the smart sniper will place their bid with a minute and one second remaining.

Of course there will always be newbs who don't know proper sniping techniques that will result in higher prices. One thing is certain, it will make sniping a lot more time consuming.
