old proof sets

I once asked you about old proof sets. We have a 1939 and a 1940 that I want to send in for slabbing.
They are in capitol plastic holders.

Can I send in the plastic holder or do I need to crack them out? I don't want to take the chance of harming them. Can the grading company crack them out for me?

Thanks for your help!

  • I would say send them the way they are, grading companies crack stuff all the time, just remember you may get a few fingerprints if you let them do it.
  • The forms that I have for submitting to PCGS state that the coin must be in a 2x2 flip, unless it is a crossover grading.
Don't you know that it's worth
    every treasure on Earth
    to be young at heart?
And as rich as you are,
    it's much better by far,
    to be young at heart!
  • Capital plastic holders are the pits. The coins are not held snugly, and move about as you move the holders to view both sides, thus scuffing the high points of the coins. I would get them out as quickly as possible.
