Paying for PCGS membership = better grades?

What PCGS membership does everyone use for submitting coins and have you noticed better grades for being a paying member over using free silver membership? Just curious.Wondering if I should use money for membership or slabbing more coins(mostly moderns).image

Pennies make dollars, and dollars make slabs!

No better grades, but cheaper rates if you are gold or platinum...

Grades are the same. No benifit other than less cost for submissions.

  • Platinum get printed POP reports too I believe (gold and silver do not)

Something I've been wondering about is if paying for a higher tier, such as Express service, might result in better grades. It seems to me that if a submitter is forking over the extra bucks for quick turnaround on some primo coins, that this might cause them to take notice and gives the coins a bit more attention.

Anybody have any experience with that?

I've only been a gold collectors club member for a year, so I can't say any difference. Of course, I don't see how it would even be an issue because the graders don't see the invoices or the membership levels.

Gold level gets online pop reports. Which have been useful a total of 0 times to me.

Platinum member for the free regrades, 0/15 since on crossover attempts. Don't waste the money unless you are going to submit 8 coins anyway.

Practically all of my *major* hits have either been thru the Economy or Modern tiers. Without a doubt I've gotten killed more times with the Express tier.

    Greg,

Thanks, that's good to know. I have a couple pieces that I was thinking about bumping up to express. They can't go economy because of value, so I was thinking about springing for the extra $20 each to get a quick turnaround. I'll leave them at regular.

  • I just joined at the plat. level, and have yet to submit coins..I get 8 free submissions, and as noted above, lower fees afterwards - for 2 years. I have had my own issues with PCGS (as you may have read elsewhere..) over the years, but since I'm starting to get serious about my collection again, it seems like selling (or buying) quality coins without a "big-three" cert. is either risky or nearly impossible. So, I ponied up the $180 and hope to get some decent grading in return..hope being the emphasis! I let ou all know how it turns out...I think I'll start with some classics (but no crossovers, evidently!) for my freebies, and then send some "modern" proofs and MS65> statehood quarters. I do get a population report as well as the other info included in gold &silver pkg. HOPEfully, we will get off on the right foot this time. Greg - if your there....when you say major "hits" I'm not sure what you mean. I guess that's a coin that got bumped nicely, or graded out nicely, since the express killed you. I would think the express would be more likely to give ya "hits" since they would have less time to scrutinize, and know you paid extra bucks for the service..otherwise, why would customers choose it..to get killed? I dunno....it will be an interesting year ahead, and I'm glad I found all of you to ride along!! (that's one unlisted benefit of joining the PCGS service - a link to these boards). Chuck

Huh? I've paid big time for regrades and I'm a platinum member. Where does it say free regrades to platinum members?

I pay a flat 25.00 a coin to my deal and if there is any a$$ kissing he can do it. I only do 2 or 3 coins a year with pcgs so the gold or platinum isn't worth it to me. I really ain't sure what Four FREE Submission at the Regular Service Level means.

    geb209,

You can use the eight free submissions (Platinum level) or the four free submissions (Gold level) for regrades.

Unless your at a show, and pay for same day service, the graders don't know what level service you paid for.
