hey what do you think that green crud is?

I just got the Bid on this nice BU 1912 V nickel will a cleaning get ridge of the green crud. I had some 1870's IHC with green crud. I cleaned the crud to find moon size cradder pits under the crud. they where a lot lower grade than the V nic

MacCoin - That green stuff is the byproduct of corrosion. If you clean it off, you will have moon size pits on this coin also. But, on the positive side, it looks like a good deal anyway!

That crud looks like verdigris; remember nickels are mostly made of copper.

Could it be PVC damage? I uunderstand that would show as a greenish "crud."
