1884-o VAM Morgan, any assistance?

I was looking at some Morgans that I had laying around for a while, and I noticed that one of the mintmarks looked a bit odd.

It's an 1884-o, but the o looks doubled. I have an old Guide to Morgan and Peace Dollars by Van Allen and Mallis, but I'm not sure what it is indicating. It looks similar to the one listed as 7R o/o tilted left. The text further indicates obverse III 2 L amd reverse c 3 e. Can someone help decipher this for me?

BTW, it looks like this:

1884-O RPM VAM 6 "O/O". Underlying remains at bottom left outside of mintmark. This variety comes in high grades, often with proof-like surfaces.
Thats all it lists on the vamlink site. No idea what the obverse-reverse numbers mean.

Thanks for the quick response. Are they common or anything special?

    Some asking prices.

    1884-O VAM 6 PCGS MS63 "O/O." Top 100. I wish all MS63's looked this nice! Frosty cheek & excellent eye appeal. $69.00

1884-O VAM 6 PCGS 65 DMPL "O/O". Strong remains of underlying O. High grade. $400.00
  • What Placid pointed out is a Top 100 VAM. So it does get a premium. I don`t know how much but, does get one. Also have a link to the Top 50 Vam .

According to the most recent Top 100 census, the 1884-O Vam 6 trades at $55 v $27 (common variety) in MS63 providing you have a buyer for Top100. It is considered a the more desirable '84-O variety for the Top100 for such a collector, BUT

I don't think this image depicts the Vam 6; it looks more like a Vam 9 to me.

Vam 6 diags - II "O" minmark repunched with original showing on left side of opening, a spike below the O and line outside the lower left. It has a III-2-4 obverse (date set further right than normal)

Vam 9 diags - II "O" mintmark repunched with original showing upright within half of opening. It has a III-2-1 obverse (normal die of the III-2 type)

Morgan dollar dies are attributed as type I, II, III & IV obverses and A, B, C & D Reverses each with specific characteristics. The second identifier indicates a minor design type, (eg, III-1 would have lines in all wheat leaves, long leaf between stalks, point of Liberty neck in middle of denticles while III-2 has a long wheat leaf w/weak lines, whort wheat leaf between stalks, point of Liberty neck between denticles). The third indicator is assigned as characteristics further distinguish a die.
