Good gifts for groomsmen?

Gentlemen of the board,
I am getting married in June, and I have been contemplating what I should buy for my groomsmen. I am not a "wallet or keychain" kinda guy, and I am not a rich guy either.

I was thinking about giving an autograhed Pete Rose baseball, and I wanted to get an opinion. All eight of the guys in my wedding are big sports fans, and all eight are Pete Rose fans.

Plus I can get a dozen PSA/DNA for under 500 ... image

Has anyone ever given unique, off the beaten path gifts such as this? What does a typical "groomsmen" gift go for? I am new to this ....

Thanks.

After all the money clips, Mint Julep cups Pen & Pencil Sets .... I think that is a very cool idea. I mean many of these trash and Trinkets did you keep from other weddings? I bet your buds will hold onto this present...My vote is an emphatic Yes!

  • I got beer mugs and shot glasses with their names etched on the glasses. Cool gift, so I thought. At the reception we all enjoyed a drink or 2 with our new glasses. image

    Thanks

Great idea. I spent $20-$30 on my boys so your price is in line, and it's definitely something they'll remember and keep.

I got my guys bootlegged concerts from their favorite bands. I think a person gift is much better than a tie-clip. I have been in 7 or 8 weddings, and don't remember/have any of the gifts I received...

  • If the bride has any sense of humor, I'd give them all a few PSA graded 1970 Kelloggs cards and have them dress up like the Kool-Aid guy.
  • Great idea and if any of them cancel let me know I would be glad to fill in image

All of groomsmen in my wedding grew up with me in Pittsburgh, so I gave each of them the 1971 and 1979 World Series videos (both are the Pirates beating the Orioles in 7 games). I bought them through Sports Illustrated and they are issued by MLB Home Video. The gifts were definitely well received.

A Pete Rose autographed ball would be far and away the best groomsmen gift I would have received from the 8 weddings that I had to don the monkey suit. I too remember a shot glass and a tankard with my name etched in it - have no idea on the other 6...

  • Buddy of mine's friend got married, and he gave him an autographed Reggie Jackson bat. Told him through thick and thin, good times and bad, at least he'd have his Reggie jackson autographed bat. Well, a few years later they got divorced, and the lady took everything except...you guessed it.

I don't know, kinda reminded me of the story.
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

    Neal,

Great Idea! That's a lucky bunch to be in your wedding!

  • I wish I would have thought of an idea like that. My head was spinning so much around that time. I have been married for 4 years this March. I just had to ask her "What gift did I get my guys?" I couldn't even remember. (it was an engraved cross pen -I think I spent about $40-50 per pen w/ the engraving.

I would have loved to give an autograph baseball of something similar- hind-sight is always 20-20!

1420Sports-I gave one of my groomsmen an autographed Pete Rose baseball. Part of his wedding present to me was a personalized autographed Roger Clemens ball, congratulating me on my wedding. We gave each groomsmen and bridesmaid something totally different.

I hate traditions, people crying, get togethers, and most of all I hate ceremonies, so I just went down and signed some papers to get married. Much less headaches, no relatives, and I blew all the money I would have spent on a wedding having a blast in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. Much more fun than meeting inlaws that I probably won't like in the future anyway. Just my 2 cents.

The Rose balls are a great idea. If I had done a more traditional wedding it would have been perfect for me. As it was, I did a Luau in Vegas I gave my group Tommy Bahama Aloha shirts.

  • Neal,

Great idea!! I got married by a friend who was a preacher at his house.Nice and quiet.I think that your present would be one that they would remember and hold onto for a long time.Go for it!!!

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
  • Neal,

Why is it no surprise to me that all 8 of your groomsmen are also Rose fans? You probably made that a prerequisite image

I think it's a great idea. My groomsmen are more fond of liquor than sports memorabilia, so I'm going the old-fashioned route and getting them engraved stainless-steel flasks. Hopefully they'll wait until after the ceremony to test them out ...
