  • Yeay! Now I will have to get the serial numbers. I do love a trip to the safe deposit box image
  • So does anyone want to trade an MS65 43DDO (Double eye) for an MS65 43/2? Any other trade?

  • It's good that they recognize the the 1938 /1940 REV. varieties. What concerns me is how they treat the early
slabs that did not consider the die variety. The basic set now suggests all the earlier 1939 slabs are 1938 Rev's.
I've stayed away from the 1939 issues because this was coming down. I have a 1939 FS, that I consider a '40 rev.
I can send this back for reslabbing, but it will reduce my "basics" set.

I'm only going on this thread, but the differiention of the two dies without inclusion of both in the basics set requires
    some debate.

The numbers of each die variety are subjective. I would like hear from the more experienced Full Step collectors on this issue.

  • Boston Bob:

I agree - I think PCGS made a mistake not using all new coin numbers for the 1939 rev of 38 & 40. I did resubmit all my 1939 for correct numbers.

In my opinion, the 1939 reverse of 38 are more difficult in full steps. Which reverse should be in the basic set is subject to debate?

    If you believe Breen's estimated numbers of each reverse - 38/40 - 1939 20%/80%, 39D 60%/40%, 39S 67%/33%.

I think you could make a case for either reverse or both in the basic set.

  • Frank,

    Thanks for the numbers.
I need to get more reference materials!
What's your opinion of adding to the basic set?

  • Thanks for the heads up Frank! I haven't had the time or funds this past year
to upgrade my set, but did just get a mini-fix by adding the '45 DDR (MS65) that
    I've had for awhile now.

I still need to get my 39's reattributed...all of which are Rev 40 coins. And try
to cross a drop-dead gorgeous 39-D Rev 38 that's sitting in an ANACS 67 holder.

  • Hello everyone.....well it's good to see all the PCGS listed Varieties in the Variety set. I do agree with Boston that any reverse should be entered in the basic set. After all....the basic set is just that...."Date and Mintmark". (A grown-ups Whitman Book). For people like myself and others I enjoy the search for the two reverses. I just put in a MS65 1939-S Rev. of '40 I had for years. Not the highest grade but a coin I found years ago that is pure eye candy. Clackamas: Nice job on those '43 DDO's. It's been fun watching your set and the others grow. Also: When submitting a slabbed coin (1939's) to be reassigned the proper reverse, how do you mark the PCGS form? Is it a re-grade or can you just pay the $5.00 for a reholder? Good luck everyone....

    P.S. Anyone have a nice MS64 or MS65 1955 d/s?

    Enjoy your coins..................
