Is this AT?

I saw this auction and wondered if this coin is AT. It is slabbed but something doesnt look right to me. I am learning and wanted more wise opinions. Thanks.

    It's not slabbed, it's NTC.

My amature guess is yes it is.
Notice the one pictured above there is a difference in the color as it goes over the lettering.

The look at the one in the auction.

Also what is up with the lines across the coin is that from the pciture?
  • I would think that no silver coin would tone that fast without some major help.

  • I take it NTC slabs anything then, huh. Even if it is AT or not. I thought it looked funny but wanted to check with you "experts" image

I'd be leery of anything in an NTC or ACG slab, they're just not reliable. As for the toning, it looks like it could be ok - but obviously you'd want to look at it up close. You can't use the same standards for ASE's as for silver dollars, because ASE's are 99.9% silver, and they tone differently than 90% silver dollars.

The even toning on both sides along with the age (or lack there of) of the coin, would lead me to believe that it's AT.

Yes, this coin is AT. It looks like liver of sulphur was used.

Hey, this is progress though. You asked BEFORE you bought!!! And your suspicions have been confirmed. I agree by the way with the strong consensus that this pup has had a lot of help. 6 years is very slim time period to come up with those heavy and multiple colors. Looks like someone has been practicing for a Coin Doctorate.

  • if you see the coin I posted above as a 1986 and it looking real to PCGS. I saw a 2000 that was purple and slabbed by PCGS. Someone on this board that I would trust as saying this has been told that PCGS is aware of how these turn this color and how quickly they turn and PCGS has agreed it is natural.

it looks AT to me, although i disagree that an SAE can't tone that fast - they can.

JB, you have a different coin the the one Lori linked

hers has a questionable obverse and a very highly questionable reverse
the reverse is the side that would keep me away from the coin she linked - colors look "misplaced"
