I Like toned Binion Dollars

Over the last two weeks I have won at auction or purchased a number of Binion Dollars
in NGC-65*, 66* and 67*. I know that these dollars are supposed to be overgraded by NGC,
but the tones are so vibrant its hard to resist. Seems to be a lot of interest on the auctions
for them. 66* with outstanding color seem to be going for around 1200 - 1500 dollars.
The 67* with superb coloring on both sides are going for 3500 - 4500 dollars. These are for
common dates. I guess that the collecting community is just rediscovering the beauty of toned Morgans.
Obviously, the above stated money is for top of the line coins that would probably cross over to
PCGS if one were to be disposed to do that. A number of superior 65* Binionswith outstanding colors
have been going at auctions on eBay for around 650 -750 for common dates. But again these prices
are for top of the line coins and color.

Why don't you post some scans of your new purchases? I've found that many of the Binion coins have a very distinctive 'look' to them....must have something to do with the conditions under which they were stored.

challanged. I will have some of them with me at the Long Beach Show on Thursday the 27th of Feb.

I am "toned Binion" challenged! But I like them too! Gsaguy is right, they do seem unique in their toning.

If you bought them on eBay you could post the auctions if there are pictures for us travel challenged.
That's hilarious Placid!
I agree, if you could post an eBay link or two of your purchases we could share with you some of these vibrant Binny's.
Thanks,

and the 1886 Ngc 65*. I hope that will help. Other toned coins were by Mbcoin auction.
I won the fantastic 1884 rainbow in PCGS-ms63 and the 1979 NGC MS-66 both not
Binion pieces. I also purchase the Magnificent Binion Morgan 1886 MS67* and the lovely1886
monocromatic Tone in pure gold/bronze evenly spread accross the obverse from Wayne Herndon.
By the way he is a pleasure to deal with. Of cours our very own Anaconda sold me from his
eBay store (Anaconda Rare Coins) a wonderful toned 188ls in NG63* PL toned magnificently
and a l996 PCGS -65 toned a bullet burgandy./gold

Morgans in a secret underground spot and then just left them alone. Over the many years ,the coins and
Mother Nature combined to produce many remarkably toned gems. To be sure there is a lot of low grade
coins and many are heavily marked up. But the special look of the best of them is truly awsome. If
one is selective on purchases, then you really cant get hurt. I am not sure how many other toned hoards
are out there. But this one seems have demand growing for the top condition and finest toning.

Hello bear
I was reading an article somewhere on the net about the Binion hoard as i to own a few of the coins from this hoard, (but in blast white)
The article pointed to the fact that Binion also hoarded cases and cases of canned peaches in juice, several of the cases were found to have leaking cans in them and you guessed it leaking all over some of the bags of coins. Some of binions coins have an odor of peach to them. BUt now i am wonderring what effect the suger water from the peace juice had on the coins?
Thanks

which would be viewed by most collectors as undesirable and out of context with the
normal toning effects.

I wonder if the fact that the coins were stored underground, in the middle of the desert has something to do with the toning? I've heard the peach story before (thankfully, I don't collect peaches
Whatever it is, there are some beautiful Binions. One day...but for now I'm still saving for the pissing astronaut

then just the temperature. I suspect that the buried hiding place, provided a stable atmosphere and
temperature with low humidity. These conditions would allow the chemicals in the canvas sack to do
their work in a most unique and beautiful way. Another advantage, the coins were not subjected
to mechanical counting machines as were the Redfield Hoard of dollars. Many Redfield coins suffered
typical cuts and unsightly scrapes by such machines. I think that the stable dry conditions had a lot
to do with the Binion Hoards special look and quality of the toned coins contained therein.

Some day I will put an enormous reserve on that gem and aution it. I guess I will in effect
become a junior grade Anaconda or Wondercoin Bear.

Does anyone have a slab they don't need from the Binion Silver hoard? Or at least scans fo both sides? Now that is the Binion SILVER hoard not the Binion COLLECTION! NGC has used that same three cowboy label on three different groups of coins each of which was identified on the bottom bar of the label. The Binioncollection.com, The Binionsilverhoard, and the Nevadasilverhoard.com
I have a Binion collection piece and I have a scan of the front of a Nevada silver hoard. I have seen a Binion silver hoad but have no pictures. I still need specimens of the latter two yet for the reference set.
Perhaps if you crack-out your new MS70 and store it in your new cookie jar along with a jelly doughnut, you can achieve even greater colors!
Again, AWESOME Dollars!

the higher grades like MS 65,66,67 with stars, I have bought MS-63 with amazing color. You can see
that coin by going to MBcoin@Yahoo.com. The first coin should be the 1884-O PCGS in MS-63.
