ARGH*&^%&^%$ I HAVE to HAVE this COIN!

I should never have started out trying to fill in a complete set of PCGS MS65 Morgans CC's....I really want that 79 CC, but a MS65 is 18K......Huff...Snort....Guess I'll have to settle for a MS64, Oh crap, there $5900.....Hold on, maybe I'll have to settle for a MS63...Na, that grade will have to wait too...

I will get that coin, just not this weekimage

Anyone else obsessed with getting a certain coin?

    Hi Maddox,

Sorry to hear your quest is thus far unfulfullied. This is my 79-CC. My great uncle owned it since the 1930s (he like the old west connection) and it passed to me upon his death. Currently it's raw, about an EF40, but I will likely get her slabbed at the next Long Beach show.

    Hope you get one soon!

Maddox, Just bought my 79-cc at FUN. It is a 63 pcgs and I love it. Has nice original toning on it , just the way I like it.

I'm getting an itch to get a 1901-S quarter. It's not rational.

A PR68DCAM Accented Hair Kennedy half. I'm not going to be able to buy one, so I'll have to keep working at it until I make one.

The '01-S's certainly do seem to shoot straight up. Naturally, I don't have one. image

I've always had my eyes on a PF mercury dime. I'm thinking this year i'll take the plunge and spend over $100 on 1 coin. I know I know that's pocket change for some of you but for me that is a serious commitment.

You're in good company; it's "rare" for me to spend over $100 on any one coin, and when I do I don't do it on a whim. More typically, I'll spend $50 or less now and again. And nothing pleases me more than finding a really nice brown AU Lincoln cent for a few bucks that I happen to "need".

I like to think that the person who can easily afford a $5,000 coin like I can a $5 coin may well pine for the $50,000 ones. Unless you're Bill Gates-wealthy this probably happens to everyone.

  • In 89 i saw the nicest m.s. 65 barber half i'd ever seen, but at the time even though i wanted it badly i thought it was way to overpriced [wasn't everything then] to this day i search for that coin and will buy it even if i have to use the plastic if i ever find it again. It was an 1892 p [not rare] in an n.g.c. slab beautiful but very dark rainbow toning semi prooflike full luster no luster breaks razor sharp strike no visible reason why the coin didn't 6. The 2nd time i got that feeling about a coin was when i almost sold my entire collection to buy a m.s. 64 1799 bust dollar at central states in may of 2000 but was talked out of doing it by a friend who said why would you want to sell your
entire collection to own just one coin. I listened to him, big mistake. The third time i got that feeling was in april of 2001 when heritage listed a 1892 S barber half in p.c.g.s. 66 beautiful obviously olriginal color sharp strike, full luster correctley graded surfaces but they were asking to much for it which is why it went unsold for three weeks, in May of that year heritage told me that if i didn't buy the coin a notice to all members listing barbers on there want list would go out after reaching 30 days on there sight, i asked for a price reduction from the 7200 they were asking and was told the collector they were selling it for would not go below 6700. This time, i didn't let it get away.
