Does Anyone Else Have Trouble Parting With Coins!!!

I've been sitting here reading messages for over an hour. I ran across one in the buy, sell, trade section that was asking for anyone wanting to sell 2002 Silver Mint Sets. No big deal, RIGHT? Well I thought to my self Hey I've got a couple I'll p.m. this guy and sell all my extras. Had the message typed about to hit send and BAM! I couldn't pull the trigger! WHY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought to myself you can't get rid of those they might be worth something someday! You might have a PR 70 in one of those. So of course I pulled them out inspected each and every coin for the millionth time, pulled out the loop looked over them again and almost felt sick for even considering it.

WHY CAN'T I SELL ANY OF MY COINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am such a goober when it comes to parting with anything!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

If there are any Doctors on the board could you please P.M. me I need to speak to you about getting a script for some nerve pills.

I need help!!!!

If you are a collector then you collect (assemble and accumulate). Selling is not part of the definition.
It is ok. If you want to be rational and logical about what you do with your time and money, find another hobby.image

I am the same way, it gives me the shakes just thinking about parting with coins. I have sold a couple (actually 3 or 4) coins to members on these boards, but I just find that I want everything I have, and most everything that I don't have tooimage
  • Sure do. I have some sweet ones that are doubles. Right now I couldnt sell them. I suppose, barring any hardships, if and when the prices go up enough, I sell, sell, sell!!!

I used to have a hard time. In fact, I went years and years without selling anything. Then I finally sold something for the first time last fall. It was hard, and I really didn't want to. But it was liberating. I ended up selling many low end things that would never make money or even close. And got 3 nice coins for it. Once you've taken the plunge, it gets easier. Just be watchful of greed. Once you start buying and selling, you can get greedy. And then you find yourself making bad deals because you were so focused on profit. Thankfully, I nipped it in the bud. Now I'm more careful and controlled in coin buying. And I buy purely for fun now.

I rarely buy coins I don't like, so unless they were bought to be sold, it is hard to get rid of them image... but that means I love 'em all image

I have a hard time depending on the coin. I have no qualms with selling coins I cherry pick @ a show, or if the coin isn't that special to me.

I'm started to get doubles now in my toned Peace set since I'm always looking to upgrade some of the coins. But I can't even sell my doubles. There too hard to find with toning. I guess I'll end up having a MS60-62 and a MS 63-65 set of toned Peace $ image Oh, well.

I have another box full of various (ikes, jfks, lincolns, mercs, ect) ANACS slabbed toned coins. All rather interesting, but common grades MS63-65, but the toning is what makes me hold on to them.

Guess that's why I'm a collector and not a dealer.

  • Most of my coins are for sale. Don't mind selling 'em, just hate the shipping part.

I am deeply pained that I feel I have to start pruning my collection. They were all bought with love, cared for with love, and I will gladly prune as little of my collection as possible...

Hard a terrible experience at the FUN show. Sold 3 proofs sometime ago to a friend and he had them at the show. They were in his permanent collection and even nicer than I remember them.....should never have sold them!!!image

  • My goal is to have a core collection of no more than 100 gold coins (primarily Liberty eagles and double eagles). At some point soon, it will be necessary for me to focus my efforts on certain series or types. It will also come to the point in which I will have to sell a coin in order to buy one. I am looking forward to this!
  • I buy a coin, then I find the same coin in a better condition ..Then I keep both of themimageimage

Some coin sales are very emotional and I've found the pain or seperation anxiety to be unberable, no matter what the profit margin...

If I were to present you with a woman slightly prettier than your wife would you trade? Of course not. none of my family is up for grabs. This includes wife, children, dogs, and coins. I will cling to the lowliest of them all until death. This is simply they way many of us are. Don't fret, you are probably just a numistmatist and a patriot.

  • That's where I'm at Maddox! I have 2 or 3 of the same coins just can't get rid of them! Like everyone says that's why I'm a collector and not a dealer!
