$100,000 in gold coins stolen from Salt Lake storage unit.

Not the smartest place to keep your money.

The article is kind of interesting. Do you think they overemphasized the importance of the slab in the article?

  • people that leave coins in a storage place and not at home or in a safety deposit box are asking for what they got. A true shame.

Wow in a storage unit? No insurance? Who the heck would insure Coins that were being kept in a storage unit?. The owners of these coins should have stuck them in a bank box where they stood a better chance.

........i think overemphasizing the importance of keeping them in the holders was a good thing. i was actually anticipating that he would say the opposite, and unwittingly tell the crooks what they should really do. my hope is that the owners have the serial numbers written down somewhere, an obvious advantage of the registry format.

I'm surprised they would convert them all to gold and not insure or protect them better. I mean I do not yet have my best stuff adequately protected, but I also don't have a collection worth 29 uncirculated gold coins!

if you think they are stupid...I have friends of mine who sell....they left there "items" in a trash can to hide it...yes a week later when they came home the first thing they did was dump the trash!

  • This guy called my store. I do not believe him. He did not want to spend a few moments faxing me a list of coins or a police report. I guess his time was too valuable to go the extra step to try to get his coins back.

If the coins were uninsured, then what's his incentive to lie? Unless, he's hoping to receive compensation from the storage facility operators?
