What do you guys think of this toning?

With all the AT talk, I just thought I'd post this post this subtle example. Kind of pretty but C'MON!!!!!!

It's pretty neat, but I don't think I'd buy it.
  • For anyone who is interested:

    Blow Torch Toning

Seriously though, is this the kind of toning that a blow torch creates?

heat-induced a-t. it would likely not be commercially acceptable, under the guidelines of anacs, ngc or pcgs.

but i do kinda like it in a way...

hey, it is what it is. colorful, interesting, artificial.

imo the toning is grade neutral, the prettiness kind of making up for the damage.

I like it for a buck or two, maybe five, but not if i have to send away for it.

on a pre-1916 coin this would look terrible and pretty much ruin it.

  • Anyone can do that crap. Just hard-boil an egg and stick the coin in it while it is still hot. Leave it there until the thing cools down. It's an amateur coin doctors trick.

How about exposing some of the better coin doctors here. The ones that are good enough to get their work into PCGS holders. Hopefully to save some of us some hardships down the road?? Any objections?

    Go ahead!
  • I think I said this before, but...

If it is AT, and it "gets by" and gets into a "real slab" (non-ACG or NTC, etc...) then for all intent and purpose, it isn't AT anymore.
