An etiquette question – Does a dealer expect/appreciate an acknowledgment after a successful transa

If I purchase something over the internet, should I e-mail the dealer an acknowledgment saying that I received the coin and that I’m happy with it? One way of looking at it is that the dealer will know immediately that I don’t plan to return the coin. On the other hand, does a dealer really want to spend the time to read all sorts of comments that do not pertain to potential sales? Is being silent after a purchase the best way to indicate your satisfaction?

Thanks,

Dan

  • I'd submit that feedback is ALWAYS useful, and in "style."

Today it seems that being rude is in vogue. I applaud your sense of manners. image
  • You kidding me? I love to get that kind of feedback. Coin dealers are not exactly the most revered profession, you know, and positive feedback is a welcome day brightener. image

    Dan,

Whether your thoughts are positive or negative, a good dealer will always want to know what you think of the coin, and the overall transaction for that matter. And, it's always good for him to know that the coin did indeed arrive safely.

Perhaps the coin was right, but the price wasn't. Perhaps it took him too long to get the piece to you. If you're unhappy with any part of the transaction, your feedback will help him serve you better then next time around.

  • a dealer should thank you
  • it is always appropriate to acknowledge receipt and let the seller know that it is a 'done deal'.

I have to laugh, but not at your questions. Here is why, Yes dealers always want to know the coin arrived safely, and also what you think of the piece. So once in a while with a couple dealers I know, when the coin arrives I Email them and say " Coin arrived safely, thanks for your great service and a trouble free transaction.

That's if I already paid and didn't take the coin on approval. I can usually count on a quick Email back saying "and, what do you think of the coin." Now when it's on approval they really want to know what you think of the coin because they need to know if they are going to get paid.image Yeah I'm rotten, but I always get right back with them and give my opinion.

  • Just because you let him know the postal service is working and you are pleased does not let the seller off the hook on return privlages or whatever terms were in place before the purchase. You could be pleased with the service and hate the coin.?
When i buy or sell -the more i know about whats goung on the better i feel and if the other party takes the time to let me know he's recieved something its good business etiquette at the very least.

it's just plain common courtesy to acknowledge receipt. it would seem that since a message is being sent, a simple word or two about the coin wouldn't hurt and may help ease any future sales.

Keets, that is very well said. Who in this world doesn't want to receive a bit of praise? I always let a seller know the coin arrived safely and my initial reaction of the coin's quality. I have found they always appreciate the courtesy.

I always like to hear a buyer likes the quick shipping and likes the coin. Let them hear from you! image
  • Hi Dan,

As a dealer whose been in business for 30 years, I don't expect it -- but I sure do appreciate it. Most important though, I remember it.
