Frankies: anything wrong with buying non-cameo proofs?

Frankies - I just like 'em! I'll take 'em either way, but it seems to me that everyone who collects 'ole Ben likes to get 'em in cameo with FBL?

    Welcome!

Buy what you like- it doesn't matter what others think.

  • Lori: Sweet! Now I got both! Nice photo - Nice coin. I assume this is your coin of choice as well?
  • Nah, I like toned morgans. However I do love any coin that is toned. I'm not too picky.

  • Welcome to the boards first of all. As airplanenut said, collect what you enjoy the most. There`s nothing wrong with collecting non-cam proof Franklins in my book. I have a raw one myself that looks real nice. I would geuss it`s a Proof 62 or 63. So welcome and chime in anytime you like.image

  • Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. You all sound like a nice bunch. I think this will be a real good way to share my new and recent passion of coins. I'M HOOKED! I may need professional help. Nickels, Dimes, Quarters...all of 'em - dreaming about them every night (except for pennies - sorry Lincoln...)

  • Sorry, it's just wrong.

  • Personally I like deep cameo contrast on my proof coins. There is nothing wrong with liking brilliant proofs. A matched set of Franklins in PR 68 would be a thing of beauty. It also would be much, much cheaper than a cameo set.

Welcome to the forum Cuzh. By the way FBL is used for Mint State Franklins if they are well enough struck so that the horizontal lines at the bottom of the Bell on the reverse are full and unbroken.

  • I do like the cameos better, but your gonna pay. I usually can find coins with decent contrast, but not enough on one side, etc, to get the des. I pay regular proof prices for, and have a liittle nicer coin.
I can also find proof sets occasionally, at coin shows, that display a little contrast.
