Secrets of the US mint (Discovery Channel)

I've never been able to catch it, so I bought it and just watched today.

Out of curiosity, was anyone from this board present at the auction that had the 1913 Liberty nickel? There are also pieces of a coin show. . .anyone from here in any of those scenes?

  • Is that the show that featured a segment on the "upcoming" Sacagawea?
  • If it's the same show I think it is, Discovery channel has been showing it every couple of months for the past few years. There's a real nice segment on the Canadian mint's gold coin minting process.
  • Laura: Where were you sitting? I kept checking and checking, but I grew tired of waiting for it to be scheduled so I went to their web site and bought "Secrets of the US Mint" and "The US Mint." Both are pretty good with inside looks P, S and W mints. Also, a nice look at the Canadian mints gold coins in "The US Mint."

Dabugler: There was no segment on the SAC, but they did bring it up when they started to discus mint errors.
  • It must have been a different show then. The one I was thinking of spent the last 15 minutes or so explaning the approval and design process of the Sac and State Quarters. It kind of came off as publicity and marketing hype. Overall, very informative.

There are two. The one with the minting process and the 1913 nickel, and another about the Sacagawea and the Candian gold processing. Both excellent shows!

  • What got me about the one show was the W mintmarked dollar galvano on the reducing machine and the 2000-S business strike dollars being produced. (Wonder if any of those will ever turn up?)
