1867 Dollar :: is this Breen 5478? closeup of repunched date

this coin is certainly impaired, grading choice VF with some hairlines and retoning, does anyone know anything about this variety and if this is it? thanks in advance

The 1867 RPD is not a variety per se. It is actually an early die state, because just about all known genuine MS 1867 dollars come like that, with the RPD disappearing after successive uses. There is one other known obv die, and that has the entire date mis-punched in the denticles (right below the date). (Or, was it in above the date in the folds of the gown?!?)

I was speaking about business strike specimens.

As a side note, all w/motto Seated Dollars I've ever seen (that's of a high-enough grade for the details to show) has doubling on the reverse. The doubling is most prominent in the motto (the G in GOD), but also sometimes visible in the feathers on the right wing. This is for MS as well as PF strikings.
