Pricing on 64 Kahn's Weiners Cards

I just received an offer to buy a raw 1964 Kahn's card. The dealer said it is fine, and if it does not grade at least PSA 7, I can return it. I have to pay the grading fee which is no problem.

Does anyone collect these or know how much a 64 Rose PSA 7 or 8 would go for? Thanks

    Neal:

First off -- I do not think that there are any people out there who are currently building this set in graded form. Though a very cool set for a variety of reasons, the set and its pricing can be characterized as follows:

    a) rare to find in high grade -- in fact, it is pretty rare at all, and harder in high grade due to its size
    b) Most of the people that collect these cards only collect the star players that they are interested in (Rose, Stargell, Aaron, Clemente, Robinson, etc.)
    c) Pete Lalos is just about the only person who has successfully graded and sold any of these cards in high grade. He has sold some Rose Kahn cards for major dollars in the past.

Though there is no true evidence to support this assertion, I would say that a 1964 Kahn's Rose card in PSA 8 might be valued somewhere in the $1,500 - $2,000 range. As for a PSA 7 -- I would say in the $500 - $750 range. These are just my personal guesstimates. There are a limited number of PSA 7s and 8s that have already been graded (three and two, respectively), and I do not know what they sold for. Unfortunately you have a card that is a) rare in high grade and b) highly desired by a number of player collectors. That lends itself to wide varieties in pricing -- and hard to establish a "true" market price.

Good luck on the acquisition if you are able to secure the card for a reasonable price. It is a rarity that will probably be a hole in many high-grade Rose Master Collections. If you do obtain the card -- I am sure that we woud all love to see a scan of it.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The card is en route, and once I get the card graded, and if I keep it I will post a scan. Thanks Marc.

Didn't the last Andy Madec auction have a Kahn's Pete Rose card graded SGC 88 NM-MT? I forget what year the card was but I remember the ending price was surprisingly low.

I looked on the site, and it was an SGC 96 that went for $439.

Wow. Maybe they are not as expensive as I thought.

Not necessarilly. I think the card went for way below market value in the Madec auction. The same card was sold on ebay for much, much more. I tried to look through my records list but can't seem to find it. In any event, the Kahn cards are very cool and difficult to find in any grade.
