Interest in Team Sets on the Registry?

this thread stems from a recent minimum set percentage thread that was on the boards. I'm a Reds hound, collecting vintage Reds team sets from the mid-50s to the mid-70s. I generally do not collect cards other than from the Reds Teams, but do have some vintage Rookie cards from players that I followed as a kid - Aaron, Koufax, etc. You can find my current Reds Team Sets in the following years registry sets - 1956, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1974, 1980, and 1981)
My question for the Board is this. Do you think that there are enough Team set collectors to justify a separate team set listing on the registry? I know that a few team sets have already been approved and are listed on the registry, including various Dodgers, Tigers, and Reds individual year Team Sets. With these limited exceptions, Team Set collectors have no option but to list our teams under the general set registry. I know there are a lot of Yankee's, Phillies, and Pirates fans out there. Are there enough to justify a separate category for the Team set collector's?

I think there would be much interest in Team Sets. I think this would provide a lower cost option to many collectors to actuall "complete" a set.
Are you listening PSA????
Billy
My feeling is, if PSA has the time and space to add these teams sets, then GO FOR IT!!!
Carlos
I believe that it would only benefit PSA to have more options for set collectors, as the Registry is one of the things that keeps the competition at bay.
Neal: I would be interested as to what you included on the 1980 Phillies Team Set. Did it include OPC? Kelloggs? Burger King? I think it is somewhat problematic for some of these later-year issues where sometimes you have the same card with the same picture -- and other times the same player with different pictures in different sets. I collect Philadelphia Phillies cards from across the years. I like my T206 and Sporting Life Issues as much as my 1980 and 1981 Topps. I like my OPC and Topps Venezuelan as much as the regular issue Topps. Resolving this isn't necessarily easy -- but could there just be one place where you could list all your cards from a particular team set? Just curious.

minimum requirements after reading the other thread. I wish I could afford to do the whole
set. Since the set is 144 cards and the Eagles make up 12 cards what I might do is add three other
players so I can keep my set registered. Although I wonder if someone offered a group or lot
of these cards graded in lower condition that might make me go for more?

I still haven't submitted the Philly set you asked about. Sorry. I hope to add it this weekend.

I would very much be in favor of a Reds team set. I've been a lifelong Reds fan - through good and bad - and would very strongly consider working towards teams sets from the 60's and 70's. I know you're putting together quite a reds collection. I would really like to see what all you're collection consists of (just to be jealous).

If the interest is there I will submit team set from many other years (especially the 1960's) for the Packers.
Loves me some shiny!
Unique Chicago Cards
Wrestling Cards
After many emails, we finally got it straight; however, not all the cards are included in the sets. Initially I was only collecting players that actually played during the year, so some cards were left out. In essence, BJ let me determine what cards to include but I am not sure that was the best policy. If you notice in the 1959 Dodger set, many cards are left out. Bilko, Bessent, and Giallambardo are not included. Perhaps a specific formula should be set for determining the composition of a team set.
In any event, I love the team sets (and player sets too) because I would virtually be unable to participate in the registry otherwise.
Tony - Get on it! kidding ...
ALL TIME PHILADELHIA BASEBALL looks like it is next on the list to be added. Curious to see how that pans out.
JEB.
Great idea! I think that makes a lot of sense.

I am interested in putting together a team set from the Packers in the year they won the superbowl 66 and/or my birth year 67.
Which one do you think would be better. IF you submit it to BJ can you weight it?

Player sets,Team sets,MVP sets,World series Champion sets and so on.The more concepts collectors request than even more opportunity for participants on the Registry.
One great thing about the registry is that its created a better direction for collectors with a goal to be reached upon completing.Be it a player set, or a particuar series one enjoys collecting, when you finish you've accomplished something in the hobby as well as for your own pleasure with card collecting.
Keep up the good work folks.
