Fake 1916-D dime

Take a look at this one. There is no way it is real. The shape and size of the D is all wrong. Plus, it sits above the wear on the rim. The lower half of the D should be worn too.

1916D fake

The price is still low so I gues it is scaring some of the bidders away.

As fake as they come my friend. Never buy one that is not certified by
PCGS , NGC, or ANACS. Even they get it wrong sometimes, but at least you
    have a guarantee with them.

  • How exactly is that a G+ coin (unless grading was aided with a 5th of Jack). It's amazing how the mintmark escaped all of the wear that the rest of the coin went through.
    I have icon envy.
  • It does not even look like a 'D'. It looks kind of like a backwards curved 'E' or Episilon. Minted in Eureka California, no doubt.

I agree it does look fake, but that's not stopping people from bidding on it.

I agree it's appears to be in a Capitol Plastics holder, and I also think it has been cleaned. So even if it's real, it will never make it into a slab.

  • The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.

Yeah right! Bet it shows up on Yahoo next!

I have never seen a seller cancel so many bids before .
  • I wrote to the seller of this auction, told him that I am a professional numismatist and on my recommendation he cancelled the auction. He wrote that in all good conscience he couldn't sell a fake coin to anyone. He also asked where he could have it authenticated at low cost and I suggested ANACS. I did explain how the mintmark should look on a genuine specimen as well. The guy seems to be genuinely interested in doing the right thing.
