Notoriety?

I am just curious why this hobby has such a "High Class" of individuals, you all know what I mean. Has it always been like this or is this a relatively new thing. I have always had this peeve about 'fame' and I guess now that I have started this hobby and now just seeing who the 'best of the best' are and it's just starting to bother me...people acting like other people are gods because of what they own. I dunno I am not trying to start a fight here or anything just curious if this has always been a part of this hobby?
Thanks

I know I admire that in others.
It's one thing to slap together a set of Lincoln Memorials out of pocket change and into a coin album, it's another to study your favorite series, ask intelligent questions along the way, and focus on putting together a meaningful, thoughtout Collection, vs an accumulation. I respect that and take great pleasure in reading and communicating with such individuals.

I'm a low class bum myself.
But I have a king size collection.
If it has to do with people respecting others for their level of knowledge in a certain area due to years of study, I think most have probably earned that slot in the world.
If it has to do with someone tossing a big check for some big dollar coin, then suddenly becoming the subject of gossip and being considered a "famous" collector because they have money - I would tend to agree with you....case considering.
