Actually... there are quite a few. The 1972 comes immediately to mind. I'd have to check my "cherry-pickers" guide for some of the others.

  • There are many doubled dies out there. 1969S and 1980 also come to mind. I read somewhere once how many cents approximately are struck from a single die but can't remember the figure. It's in the hundreds of thousands, I think. image

    Ones I can think of: 1917 DDO,1936 DDO,1955 DDO,1958 DDO (extremely rare),1969S DDO (very rare),1972 DDO,1983 DDR,1995 DDO.

Hmmm, 1983 is the only Lincoln with doubling on the reverse?

Die life of any given die pair is .....about 100,000 strikes......or was that 500,000.....image
  • There are doubled dies known for most years through 1997 but only a few of them have made a splash among the general collecting populace. There are something like 8 different doubled dies in 1955 alone with several of them on the obv and some on the rev. There are also doubled dies known for the rev of the memorial cents for years other than 1983 as well. And there are several doubled die proof coins as well.

Die life is about 750,000 on average for cents, 300,000 for five cent and about 450,000 for all the other denominations. Die life for proof dies is about 3,500 to 4,500 pieces.
