Toned Cameos

Hi David: Can you give us a little more info on what it takes for a toned coin to be a cameo? I think I know a white cameo when I see it, but have problems with figuring a toned cameo. What specifically are the graders looking for when they decide whether or not a toned coin is cameo?

Bruce...Toned proofs need to have clear evidence of cameo to gain that designation. For example, a toned coin with white centers would work if you could see the white centers clearly. The general rule is that half of the devices must show white on the obverse, or most of the devices most show white on the reverse. But it is really a judgement call.
