1960 Penney

I am new member and was wondering i have a 1960 penney that on the zero (0) of the 60 it is cut in half but line is raised and slanted, it all most looks like it could of been stamped that way . The raised line runs from the 1:00 postion to the 8:00 oclock postion. This maybe just a oddiety any idea's

Offhand, I don't know of such a die variety in that year of one-cent piece. It's possible, however. Or it could be some sort of post-strike environmental damage or chipping. What is the general condition of the coin? Are all the images and letters crisp and easy to see? Does the coin sparkle a bit -- what we call 'luster'?

Yes it does have a little luster to it ,but I am novice at this .I have a picture of this coin I will try to get it on ????

Sounds like counting machine damage, but a picture would confirm it.

Obie - Hate to tell you, but you have a common occurrence on roll-end coins from banks. The problem you describe is caused by rolling machines used by banks and the fed reserve. Those "shotgun shell" open ended rolls that you see from the bank are put on and crimped by a machine that holds the stack of coins from the ends and "wraps" the paper around them, then uses a fitting on the end to crimp the wrapper. If the setting on the machine is too tight, they cause damage on the coins at the ends of the wrapper. Sometimes this shows up as a circular line going all the way around the coin, and other times it just affects the outside digit of the date, because it happens to be in the right place to receive the damage.

An image for you to see of what rolling machine damage typically looks like - it can, however, only affect the last digit in the date and nothing else on a Lincoln cent. I've seen it many times.
