Home PSA Set Registry Forum

I just received my set registry special $5.00 submission

I sent 25 cards(2001 Sweet Spot Baseball) in on 1/14-PSA stated they received it on 1/22 they posted results today on 2/3-pretty quick turn around.
out of 25 cards I was able to upgrade 8 of my cards! Not bad!

3- 10's
17- 9's
5- 8's- ouch!

mrichards told me those 9's are a killer!

like I said earlier I have been picking up singles on ebay. Only sending in the best of them and comparing to my other 10's of this set. Its a toss of the dice. I even tried to send 3 in that I cracked open from PSA 9 holders. One of them I had 6 of, picked the best one and hoped for a 10!
out of 3 9's I received 2 9's and an 8! oh well
here is my submission http://www.psacard.com/do_order.chtml?requesttimeout=99999&orderno=8026729

Let me get this straight: You got 80% PSA 9 or better, and you are saying OUCH to the PSA 8's? A PSA 8 is a fine grade -- even on many modern cards (esp. some of the auto., game-used insert stuff). Be happy -- that is one of the best submissions I have seen in a long time.

  • Maybe because of I am only working on this one set. I thought I was able to have even better judgement. I have purchased 2-10 copies of each SP card and compared/scrutinized/ and became very familar w/ this set. I guess because I am very picky w/ my submissions that I expected a little bit more. thanks for the feedback on my submission- I just dont send cards in to be graded- I do go for highest grade possible. I have many of these ungraded I wouldnt even bother sending in do to my experience w/ prior submissions and knowledge of this particular set! I will quote myself "I will finish this set in all psa 10's!"

Thanks again it is always a pleasure to hear feedback from a senior member.

  • Hi Derek,

When I said those 9's are killers, I meant, I get killed in price when I buy them. You should be very happy with that submission. You did very well. The grader must have had a good night before he came to work. image

Derek: I understand your position. Nonetheless, it is a very good submission. Imagine the horror of having 700-800 vending and/or factory-fresh Mike Schmidt cards -- and still not being able to find a 10 in the lot of them. Though 2-10 copies of each is a fairly consistent basis for many modern cards -- I have gone through hundreds of nearly every major Schmidt card from 1980 forward....it is very easy to spot the 9s. It is very tough to find the 10s -- and you always have a little salt and pepper (salt being the 7s that are generally unexpected and pepper being the 5s with the minute creases you never saw...)
