Salt Lake show notes and observations.

This one is called the Wasatch Winter Coin Show.
Why? 'cause it is at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and, well, 'cause it is held in the winter.
It was a two day affair held Friday and Saturday. Dealer set-up could begin at 7:00 am. Yawn!
There were maybe half a dozen early entry folks who paid to get in to get first pick.
There were 24 dealers occupying 50 tables. Among them was a very pleasant young couple that had supplies. It has been several years since there was a supply dealer that did any show in Utah. They did very well I was told.
Dealer wants at the beginning were key dates for Morgans, Lincolns and gold in that order.
The weather was nice and there was a very good turn out on Friday.
Collectors were busy filling want lists. Dollars were popular. Gold was very active. Silver eagles were steady and State Quarters were very silent.
Western state good for tokens sold well. Civil war tokens went away but that seemed to be due to one determined buyer. Merc dimes were strong sellers as were better date Indian cents.
Saturday was nearly as busy with surges in activity.
We had fun and look to an expanded show in Ogden over Easter weekend. (Ogden is north of Salt Lake)
Enjoy those coins!
Forgot my most exciting acquisition.
It's my new Max Stapler that flat clinches the staple. Got it from the above mentioned supply dealer.
Easily pleased, aren't I?

The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

Was it ever so crowded that folks had trouble getting down the aisles?
Was it more crowded that it was three or four years ago?
Check out the Southern Gold Society
One dealer had a big stack of nice Barbers, he was gone the whole time I was there, and I had to leave. Had $1000.00 cash and no one else to spend it on. Oh well his loss I guess.
Bought a nice 1904-O Barber quarter in Fine, but nothing else caught my eye.

Dave, the aisles are wide enough that there seemed to be no bottle necks. This even in kid country where strollers are everywhere. The show did seem stronger than the last couple of years. (Haven't checked actual figures) The weather can be a big factor for this show. If it is storming, some dealers call and cancel and the public stays home.

Thanks to you - the collecting bug has finally bitten my young son. And bitten him in earnest I must say ! My poor eyes are still recovering from looking through literally thousands of coins in my coin jar well into the late hours of Saturday night in a herculean effort to fill a Jefferson album in one day !!
Thank God coin shows only happen around here every so often. My poor eyes and even poorer wallet ( now ) could never afford greater frequency
TRUTH
We got a good four inches last night and today...only the second storm we've had all winter. It's shaping up to be a dry year for the valley.
Oh, I might as well (again) post pics of my two purchases at the show.
Nice steel blue toning
Neat rainbow colors that you can't really see in the picture
