The date and dark areas are probably shadows and angle of the picture but maybe not. Dark areas on gold coins are usually not desireable even in au. Coinsidering the size of the real coin vs. the picture it probably looks better in person. If you have a return option I would go for it if the price is reasonable.

It could be that it just slipped down in the holder. Anyway i hope you get it and enjoy as it is a real nice piece. The feathers are wonderful and from where i am i see a small hit on the bottom feather but other wise Nice. Go get it.

it's recessed in the NGC white plastic insert, and the angle of the picture makes it impossible to see all the coin, looks nice, good strong detail as usual for 1912. Even if it's not 58, but 55, still ok, if reasonable.
One of the coins pictured on Coinfact's web site seems to be missing part of its date as well, and no special mention is made of it in the writeup. I am not at all familiar with the series, but perhaps there are a number of pieces with cut-off dates that are otherwise fine and apparently will grade at the major services. Of course that's just speculation.

is part of the date cut off? It looks like a nice coin, are you getting a good price on it?

It looks like a very nice and pretty coin though.
