New photos - detailed collage of a Morgan VAM

This one took a bit of time to lay out, but for Morgan collectors, it's worth the wait to let it load and take a look. This one was sent in by Prooflike as a part of my 1000 post giveaway last weekend. He was one of the first three to respond to my post and for that will receive an 8X10 of the following for free:

I want to thank CC for the giveaway and for the superb imaging and layout. I could have never have captured this coin that well. He does grade A+ work! Thanks again.

Looks similar to what NGC is/was doing with their "photo-cert". Impressive, but I have a question:

Why does one image (obv/rev) look prooflike while the others look brilliant?

Different lighting angles. The "brilliant" ones are field-reflective shots done to show the color of the coin. The other shots are device-reflective shots intended to show the PL surface and the difference in texture between the devices and the fields. There is no way to capture both in the same photo accurately, so two different angles are required for the same coin. The main reason for this is because a person wants the blackest fields possible to show contrast in the device-reflective shots, the color of the field is washed out.

Incedently, the "streaks" of light in the device reflective shots (the two at bottom) are indicative that the fields are not deep mirrors. That's the cartwheel shining back up at you. The obverse is closer to DMPL than the reverse, but neither side qualifies completely. If they were DMPL the streaks of light would not be there.

And yes, this is quite similar to what NGC does in their photo service. The biggest difference is that I charge half their price or less.

A nice VAM example. I like the ones you can see without a 500 power telescope.
