PCGS Grading turn around times..Sigh....again.

Coin FinderCoin Finder Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭✭✭
I Finally broke down and paid the 5 day express fee because the 21 day service is very obviously not happening in that time frame the way I see it. When I call they say "oh that's 21 business days" and "oh you are only a Collector Club Member not a dealer so it takes longer and you will not receive future credits for grading because we are late" ARRGGGGGG!!!!

I paid $179.00 Platinum Level Club membership charge to have the privilege of submission. That is all this is. No frills. I should just submit through a dealer.

After I did this I realized that PCGS would do well to take more time grading coins because it will force the rest of us to spend more $$ on the faster service.

I've always submitted through a dealer, and then a couple of weeks back, I broke down and joined the Collectors Society over at NGC. I'm still scratching my head as to WHY.
I figured it would save me some time to put my own submissions together, rather than group my stuff with a dealer. I probably won't join again.

Guys. Submit through eBay. No fuss, no muss, and no clubs to join!

I agree with braddick completely. I always submit through the ebay form and never through another dealer. Also, I am not a member of the Collectors Club.

Submitted two circulated Morgans 12/13/02 (dropped them off in person at PCGS).

    No results yet.

Yes, PCGS... I'm getting the message: "Don't send us any coins; we're too busy."

Hold it hold it...... The first line asks for a ID number, you guys mean to tell me I do not have to pay anything for this submisson except grading/postage fees??

What is the turn around time?

How can this be? I have been a CC member for three years and this costs nothing??

Help me understand if you would be so kind.

"oh you are only a Collector Club Member not a dealer so it takes longer".

    Why do dealers pay more?

I submitted 3 Washingtons which arrived there on 12/17. I called on Tuesday and was told that it had only been 27 business days, and they are running behind, but I should get them back by the end of next week. I guess we'll see.

One thing I've noticed from reading the threads here though is that it seems that stuff submitted it January are given higher priority than the stuff they are behind on.

Placid, I am not sure what dealers pay. I know they have different forms. My guress is that they pay less. It costs a Collector Club member 30 buck plus postage both ways, one actual one very slightly inflated postage. The service I bought was the 21 day turnaround. I thought this was regular days including weekends. Then I am told it is business days. I then ask for a refund or somthing when it goes past that time frame and the response is: "Oh you are just a CC member not a dealer, I thought you were a dealer as I see you submitt a lot, no credits for future grading will be issued for CC members" I do not remember the guy, but he was at FUN when I called back. Anyway Braddick said there is a Ebay form for submission to PCGS with no CC fees!! Dam it! Why would anyone pay the silly CC member fees if you can submit without a dealer still paying grading fees of course. Even if you get a POP report it would still be cheaper to buy one of those for one month online and print it out.

    Not sure what to think!

OK This is it. I have researched this topic and have come to the final conclusions:

I was wrong about a lot of things. PCGS web site does say "21 Business days" on regular submission.

The guy in customer service was wrong in my case when he said first time I called "you are on a 15 day"

The web site says nothing about a "guaranteed" turn around time. They are all approximate times.

You can submit without a cc membership using the link provided by Braddick (thanks)

Conclusion for me is simple, I will not be renewing my CC member ship.

I thought the CC membership gives you 4 or 8 "free" regular 30 day submissions, a so called $120 or $240 value for the price of one or two year membership in the Colectors Club. It also gives you free access to the POP reports on line. Isn't that all worth something?

Don't forgit your free SAE... I've got an economy order that is now on 32 business days. When I called, I got the "we're swamped and have to do dealer orders first". Maybe this week!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Silver level membership is free and you can submit coins at that level, but the fees are higher. Modern is 12 dollars per coin, classic is 30 dollars, or double what a paid membership costs. If you submit a lot of coins you're better off paying the 99 dollar gold membership fee. Population report is also free if you are at the gold level or higher.

Well, I am an ANA member and I'll be requesting an ID from NGC pretty soon. I think that when my PCGS membership expires, I'll let it expire. But I also won't be submitting as much since I'll be doing more coinworld slabs or other holders. I'll save the slabs for purchases or particular situations.

BTW, if you are an ANA member you can submit to NGC with no membership costs.
