What is the US Mint up to?

Call me crazy, but the 2002 Kennedy Halfs were struck late in 2002 as there was little demand for the coin. The US Mint offered the coins for sale to collectors etc.. according to Coin World. Now they are selling 2003 roll sets and bags on the web site. If there was little demand for 2002 coins in commerce and they were struck last, am I to presume they also struck 2003 dated coins at the same time or shortly after? If this is true, will this be a tiny mintage?

Your thoughts appreciated.

They're in the business of making money. TWICE. They're learning more creative ways to doop the collecting public.
  • There are still 11 months left in 2003, I wouldn't bet the farm on 2002 or 2003 half dollars.

If they sell the rolls and bags they have in stock, I have no doubt they will mint more.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

It's most surprising 2003's would be for sale now. They've been making these at the
end of the year almost as an afterthought. It seems quite possible that sales now
would dramatically impinge on their ability to sell mint sets and would net few sales
anyway since people don't look for them early in the year.
