Image Comparision Scanner vs Camera

I think it is safe to say you can get a more life like image with a digital camera then a scanner, the depth and sharpness of the detail is much better and the over all color and quality of the image realistic. The first image is the scan the second is from the camera.

Nice coin. I can't get a good focus with my digital camera on something as small as a coin. How do you position and hold the camera?
