What do you mean by contemporary? Contemporary to our times or contemporary to the era when Hobo nickels were actually produced by the Bo's to be traded for food lodging etc? The one in the auction is a recent or modern carving.

I agree that it is a nice carving but certainly not the
BEST of the currently active nickel carver carvings.

That site for the Hobo,s you posted was GREAT my 13 year old son read it and his eyes where a big as silver dollars and he read every word now can you guess what he wants to start collecting and all the question how do they do that who are they and so on its was Great to see him become so ingrossed in something besides ps2 and gameboy he tells me we are off to the book store so he can learn more

I Love Hobos, and have been fortunate to have garnered a few originals. The modern ones, such as in the link are more a form of art, rather than a collectible. No doubt a great conversation piece, but merely a modern replica of a coin with great history.

But if you like it, I love it for you!
