I agree those are a bit off and even though the Crouch books more I would rather
have the carr, but rememer that the Crouch is a rookie card and the Carr isn't.

There still is a possibility that Crouch will come back, and even though he is not
playing he is still very popular with buyers.

Congrats to the man for pulling a great box! I have opened up plenty of crap!

  • Have to agree with joestalin on this one.Any nice Crouch on ebay is getting major action.Any Crouch we pull we are keeping;we just love the kids attitude plus he is a darn good athlete.
When he comes back his cards will shoot up in value even higher.
Some NFL team will give him a shot as a QB;that's all he's asking for.He has already shown he's not into it for just the money. With that kind of heart, very old school I might add,he should do real well!

There are a lot of good players in Sports with good attitudes.............it does not change the fact that Crouch is not even playing anymore and has not proved himself one bit!!!!!!!!!!.....$150 come on, give me a break........HOW IN THE WORLD IS THAT JUSTIFIED ????

for $150 I can get a nice some nice vintage rookies...you could have got both a PSA 8 Walter Payton Rookie and a PSA 8 Tony Dorsett for the suposed book value of the Crouch Card...The guy is not even playing.......the hobby needs to wake up!!!!!

The jersey/auto craze is like the stock market 3 years ago.......all of the high priced internet stocks based on no value just hype

...a few years ago babe ruth peices were $700-$1500, now look at them $200 and you can buy them in the $100's........companies are making too much of it and killing the hobby.

All of you are in for a rude awakening if you plan on retiring or getting huge returns on new stuff in the future.

..........how many times have you bougth $100 boxes and got cards that you can not even sell on ebay for $20 total...it's happened to everyone on this board

BUY VINTAGE IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE SPENDING $150 ON A CARD.........THE MADNESS NEEDS TO STOP

I collect Bobby Orr cards if you have anything interesting to offer ! Thanks
  • LoL whateva happened to Josh Huepel? he was a swell guy and a top QB pick in the draft (2001 Dolphins)?

lol....what about Heath Shuler, Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith.....all are good guys and were going for big money when they came out of college....

.....now I line my Kitty Litter Box with their cards because that's about the best value I can get out of them!!!
I collect Bobby Orr cards if you have anything interesting to offer ! Thanks
  • WELL,THERE IS ONE VERY IMPORTANT POINT YOU ARE MISSING IN THIS WHOLE DISCUSSION;NOT ALL OF US ARE IN THIS HOBBY FOR THE MONEY!
When the almighty dollar drives you in this hobby & nothing else you are destined for a rude awakening down the line no matter what you are collecting.
Now,on the other hand, there are a large number of collectors who don't care that much about valuation, except for when it comes to making fair trades that collect for the love of the players or teams.
We ,personally ,are the true hobby collector. We have over 450 Cal Ripken cards that niether of us can see EVER trading.Every single one of those cards from the lowly MVP base card to his Topps Traded
PSA9 RC are PRICELESS to us no matter what Beckett,Tuff Stuff or anyone else says.
That,by the way,is how we feel about the Crouch cards we have.
That right there is what makes this hobby so much fun;all the different kinds of people collecting, trading, buying, selling for all thier own reasons.
By the sounds of it tho we are having a whole lot more fun in this hobby than some of these money grabbing, hoping to trade or sell before valuation drops people who seem to be constantly streesed out about one card or series nearly ALL the time.Oh well,to each thier own;we sure are happy with the path we chose!

(what if vick breaks his leg?? or t-mac gets in a bad accident (just examples- nothing personal) people will be out alot of $$- it shouldnt be about the $$, it should be about the things u like to collect (nothing wrong with making a little $$ tho image

Well, you missed the whole point to the initial listing to begin with.....Beckett Sucks and it fuels the craziness of this hobby

.................my initial point was how can a guy who is not even played in the league yet (Crouch), decides to throw a "temper tantrum" and retire because he was not good enough to be a quarterback in the NFL be listed at $150 ??????????

and them you have an autograph #'d to 25 of a starter in the league only with a BV of $100 from the same set.

    It makes no sense ???
I collect Bobby Orr cards if you have anything interesting to offer ! Thanks
  • jeff, you can't blame it on the hobby. Beckett isn't the hobby. No matter what it books at, if it doesn't sell near those prices, it's obsolete. But out of all honesty, I've seen a few people looking for all Crouch cards. Some were just fans of the college he went to and liked him in college and others think he will return in the next year or so.

Auto, I was waiting patiently for your reply...don't you always?

I am not saying people don't collect or shouldn't collect Crouch (don't know where you got that??) but be realistic on pricing. I collect all Rafael Palmiero cards because I watched him play in the minor leagues and liked him ever since, so I know the value of collecting for personal reasons vs. $$$$ reasons.

Beckett needs to stop trying to manipulate the market...they put these high prices on cards so you feel better about going to buy a box of cards at $150 and getting a double jersey autograph of some scrub drafted in the last round #'d to 50 and saying it's got a book value of $200. Beckett fuels the hobby pricing and in turn helps these card companies raise the price of packs to insane amounts...so yes, I do blame the hobby..Beckett, Card Shops, consumers who buy this crap at $20 pack and get a jersey card that does not sell for $5 on ebay. I do blame the hobby, because supposed "big time" dealers and Beckett "experts" are the ones that put these insane prices into print and the hobby follows their lead. THE HOBBY IS ALL OF US FROM THE PRICE GUIDES, TO THE CARD COMPANIES, TO THE DISTRIBUTORS, TO WAL-MART, TO DEALERS AND TO US, THE CONSUMERS.

Auto...........Beckett is the #1 indicator of the Hobby pricing....it has an effect on pricing no matter what happens....Everyone reads Beckett...ALL I AM SAYING IS BE REALISTIC about pricing.......Beckett has become a guide where you look at the Book Value and take 50-75% of the book value and that is the "real selling price" on the internet. For others who don't use the internet or have access, they have no clue what things go for and actually sell for. I sell cards at a flea Market and I sell garbage for %50 book value and they think they are getting great deal because Beckett says they got a good deal.

What the hell is the sense of even having an industry leading price guide that is nothing but pricing to prop up the prices for dealers for new stuff?

AS THE #1 INDICATOR TO THE MAJORITY OF THE HOBBY IT NEEDS TO BE MORE REALISTIC...NOT EVERY ONE HAS A COMPUTER OR USES EBAY.

...The Eric Crouch pricing makes no sense, the guy does not even play and it "lists" at $150....Crouch is months away from pumping gas at the local Exxon and watching old Nebraska games drinking a six pack of Old Milwaukee a night.

I collect Bobby Orr cards if you have anything interesting to offer ! Thanks
  • There is nothing wrong with the price of the Crouch. It sells for $80+ on eBay. So the beckett price seems very fair (compared to what they list every other card at.) It dosnt matter at all if he plays or not as long as people buy his cards, Beckett bv has nothing to do with how good a player is - Some people just don't get that.
