cherrypicking modern 5 & 10 cent help wanted.

A friend gave me a couple coffee cans full of dimes and nickels from late 40's to present. Could someone tell me a few of the best years to look for errors on. Thanks

  • Good Thread! I too have been collecting Jefferson's. The only ones I know about are:
    1939 Double Monticello/Five Cents
1941 S Large and Small Mint Marks (not an error just a variety)
    1942D over Horiz D
    1943P 3 over 2
    1943D Double Eye
    1945P Double Die Reverse
    1949D D over S
    1954S S over D
    1955D D over S

I believe that is just about it with the common ones... anyone else have any??

  • Dave, Thanks for taking the time to respond. That will get me started on the nickels. I don't have a book for the nickels or dimes so your info will help. thanks Rick

Errors can happen on any date/mint of any denomination. The major die varieties are limited to certain issues, although minor cases can be made for just about any issue.

There are a number of rather easy to spot RPMs for the wartime nickels. Other than that, for the major issues, Dakra has it covered. As for dimes, I don't know, but once again, there are die varieties for just about every date/mint.

  • PM sent, Just somthing to think about, an error is an off-center, clipped planchet, struck thru grease.... a variety is a DDO, RPM and things like that, the list above is a list of varieties not errors. Good luck with the cherrypickinimage

I guess coppercoins beat me to it. anyway hope the pm helps a little bit.
