How about this one ? 96 P NGC MS 67 Album Tone

Everyone seems to be in the pic posting mood so I thought I would show this one to you. It's pretty tough to find them this nice in MS 67.

  • Thats nice and an 1896 to boot. Now if toning goes out of style with some folks you still have some money here!

  • Hey Richard! Nice coin. 1896s with cool toning are not common. Here's another album toned coin. One of my favorites:

Thanks all for the comments. Adrian. I have another 96-P PCGS65 that I sold on E-Bay a while back but liked so much that I traded a few others to get back. It looks almost like a carbon copy of yours. This date almost always comes with either album or end-roll toning although I have owned two bag toned rainbows of this date.
  • Richard,

Looks like you need some of this image

I've been looking for something like that. I've got a bunch of coins with that ugly "tarnish" and need to give them a bath before they get worse. LOL. Can you sell me a bottle?

I'll try to show some more today. Wish I had some of the ones I recently sold to show you, but they seem to be going out as fast as they are coming in.

Thanks agains for all the nice comments.

Very nice coin. It seems for some reason that most of the 96 P I have seen carries this same basic coloration on the reverse. I own one that the reverse is almost a dead ringer for the one that you pictured. The strange part is the obverse is a bag toned rainbow.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

That's is just about the prettiest toned Morgan I've ever seen (and quite a good bit of photography to boot image)!

Thanks, i'll see if I can dig up some more to post later.

I've only owned two 96-Ps with bag toning. They are quite scarce. Your's sounds like a beauty.

Here is a scan of the coin I mentioned in my post.

Edited to add, this is a very good example of a toning break, that was discussed in another thread.

That's a pretty coin Art, and you're right, the reverse looks very similar in color and pattern to mine. The untoned area you mention is an interesting anomaly that I have yet to figure out to my satisfaction. Did anyone in that thread offer a reasonable explanation? I'm thinking that it could be an anomaly in the planchet's surface,( some insufficiently rinsed areas from the chemical bath in preparation?) not allowing those areas to tone like the rest of the coin or maybe inconsistant chemical distribution(sulfur?) of the storage medium(bag, album, envelope, etc.).

I believe it would be from improper rinsing of the planchets.

Thanks Art. That seems to be the most reasonable explanation to me.

    Very, very nice coins.

Morganluver and Anaconda's both look to have a doubled "6". Sorry, I just love varieties.

Art, your coin could be the most significant of the overdates though. I can clearly see the doubled "1", but is the "6" also doubled along the top? If so, it may be the Vam 5; although not a Top100 or Hot50 selection, it would still be considered a strongly doubled date in the series, maybe worthy of a premium in itself.

    Again, all beautiful specimens.

I checked the 6 out and it is doubled. It takes guys like you to keep some of us tone nuts straight. Thanks for the Heads Up and the information.

I have two toned 96-Ps but unfortunately, neither are doubled. Thanks for the heads up though.
