1836 2-cent Piece

Is this a bonafide U.S. pattern coin, or is it a hard-times token?

Flash- Its the real deal. Listed as r-7 in Judd but more likely r-6, still less than 30 made. image It will be interesting to see what it sells for.

Neat coin, never seen one of those before................wonder why they put it in the slab upside down.

  • It will be interesting to see what it sells for.

It would probably sell for a lot more if it weren't a stupid reserve auction.

wonder why they put it in the slab upside down

Because, to many "collectors" and "dealers", the coin doesn't really matter. It's the plastic that is soooooo damn important. That beautiful piece of copper needs to be freed from it's plastic tomb.

    How'd it get so worn?
  • Pocket piece. Probably a banker or goverment official....maybe just a friend of someone close to the mint. Somebody had this baby in his/her pocket for many years. This is what coin collecting is all about. Not PF-71 DCAM Silver Eagles or AH 1964 Kennedy Halves.

ANOTHER GREAT SHOW! That is the only way that we could sum up the recent Houston Money show held in Greenspointe, Texas.
I,ve lived in Houston all my life and I dont know where `Greenspointe,Texas` is.
Only Greenspoint I know is a Mall / area on the north side of town.
Since I was ill and didnt make it to this last show here I still dont know exactly where it was.
For one, between the show organizers and coinshows.com someone dropped the ball and didnt give specific info for the show.I was bummed about that.
I mean .Some tiny crafts and collectables show in the middle of nowwhere gets more copy than the Houston Money Show?image

Neat coin.If I had it I might have it re-holdered into a fresh slab for the re-sell.Might even get a bump in grade too.
F-15? Whats keeping it from VF-20-30?
Hey I think its more of a weak strike than actual ware.
    Whata ya think.
  • Who cares what the technical grade is?? Try and find that one in your Brown & Dunn or your PCGS Grading Guide......not gonna happen. It's worth just as much in Fine as it is in AU.
