Lincoln guys...Is this a sleeper (Braddick's post)

Some auctions are head-scratchers, and I'm just curious. Looking at the most recent L&C catalog, I've noticed that the P-mint 50's Lincolns in MS66 are strong, so on a hunch, I looked at ebay to see if it was a fluke. Does this look normal?

BTW - Thanks to Braddick for planting the thought.

Yes! The P issues during the 50's are notoriously poor, and higher grades are bringing big bucks. As opposed to most other Lincoln dates, even a 66 in 1954 is hard to find. So far, PCGS has only graded 64 in MS66 and one higher (last I looked).
  • Yep. The 54-P is definitely the hardest later-date Lincoln to make a 66 in. They've at least tripled in price over the past year.

I made six of them earlier this month and sold them all within a couple of weeks in the $300 (for customers on our Lincoln mailer) to $350 range and they went so fast I'm wondering if they were underpriced. I don't really think so. This range seems to be where the market is but there is also lots of demand. If the supply dries up a bit, I can see the price inching up.

Pop on the 1954 is closer to 90 with 3 higher these days but still the key to the short set and rightfully so; the way other short set Lincolns have been selling in the past few weeks this might be a bit low pricewise. Out of those 90 coins I wonder how many goodmanmel has...

    twenty times.
  • BTW that Ebay buyer "goodmanmel" is a great guy. I've been tring to get him on the boards. His set is "Cost a Pretty Penny" and is always a lurker on Ebay for lincolns. I know he had at least 2 MS66RD 54-p's and I guess 3 now.
