Another Toned Peace & I Don't Have to Cross It!!

This is a tougher find in MS65, and it appears to be a fairly clean coin. I like the coloring and I think the blues and oranges will be more pronounced in person then in a scan. If nothing else, this is one original skin coin. And I think I got it for a great price. Anyone have a graysheet on this coin?

22-D NGC MS65 Peace

Opinions Please?

One of these days I'm going to do a "Cavalcade of Toned Peace Dollars" like Russ does with his gems. I just wish I could take better pics of toned coins.

Thanks
Michael

Hi Frattlaw, Grey sheet bid is 340.00 ask is 375.00. I think you got a good coin there. Gotta love that original crust. And in person I'm sure it's nice.

I also saw this Peace dollar but did not bid on it. The strike was nice and solid but I did not like the toning and dull look. I actually thought of buying it to see if it could be cleaned. To me, the toning is not terrible just slightly negative. I passed on it. I would like one brilliant or with nice rim toning. Greysheet has 340/370 on it.

I didn't know you were putting a toned Peace dollar set together, you might like the look of the one attached.

    Michael,

Looks like you got another good stab there. I'd say for a toned peace dollar, that one hits the spot! Now it needs to smile for my camera! image

Tom - I like that coin actually, nice colors, original rainbow/crescent effect. That's the kind of coin that would fit in quite nicely in my set. I'm not trying for a "monster" toned set, just something that will show originality and different forms/examples of toning. Monster toned Peaces are too few and far between but if I have the chance @ 1 I'll certainly take it to add to my set.

I would guestimate thats a MS65 1922? The back is clean, maybe even a MS66.

Stman -- I don't know, maybe it's slabbed toned, but from everyone's reaction to my earlier post, I guess slab toning is okay. Sorta like album toning, just the modern version.

Merc -- if that's what you're looking for them maybe this coin isn't the best example. If you really want one and I come across one in a year/mm I don't need do you want a heads up? I search for toned Peaces on Ebay daily. Let me know.

Copper - I just got them back from NGC, so I'll have to get the 1st batch out to you soon. I'll probably do like 5 at a time. Let me know when it's good for you.

    Thanks

Frattlaw, I wasn't serious about the holder toning on that one. I think the talk about that is the older holders that are not separated like this one is. I think you got a heck of a price on this one. Probably due to some people are not used to looking at toned coins scanned.

So it doesn't look like it has luster, which I'm sure it will have plenty when you get it.

Thanks Frattlaw for the offer to hunt for nice Peace dollars. I saw some on Heritage tonight (Three 1922-D's in MS65) but I'm out of money. I just bought a nice 1921 in MS64 (NGC). I shot it in the sunlight which highlights every little mark. I'll have to make a better picture.

Stman - I agree, I bet the scan washes it out a bit and it will have better luster in person, not great just better.

Merc - That's a nice 21, I still need one for my set. They're hard to find nicely toned though. I saw the pic of the proof coins of the 1940s, that must be one awesome display. The Merc dime you have as your icon is just beautiful. I eventually will need one for my proof type set as well as a 42 Jeff and WL Half. I think I'll just buy a 42 proof and get all 3 with one set. Much cheaper then buying them individually.

  • Hi frattlaw. I love your 1922-D Peace Dollar. Great looking original coin with plenty of vibe. TomB's reverse color "crescent" Peace dollar is also superb. Good luck with your toned set. Nicely toned Peace dollars are MUCH tougher than toned Morgans. image
