Strong prices (and a couple of bargains) on modern Jeff Proofs...

An Alaskan collector had a nice run of modern Jeff proofs up tonight on eBay that attracted some strong prices -- and yielded what I consider to be two big bargains. All coins are PCGS PR-69 DCAM, except the 1971-S, which is PR-68 DCAM:

1968-S: $107.50 (50/0)
1969-S: $203.50 (20/))
1970-S: $203.50 (24/0)
1971-S: $114.02 (37/3)
1972-S: $158.01 (20/0) This was a pretty good bargain.
1973-S: $94.00 (32/0) An absolute steal.
1974-S: $107.50 (62/0)
1975-S: $109.19 (53/0)
1976-S: $97.69 (150/0) Someone paid way too much.

Edited to add: The 2002 PR-70 DCAM (3/0) on Teletrade brought $825 ...

Don: Good luck, a 1957 DCAM in particular, would be a killer score. image
  • Good luck Don! Either one would be a score.

Frank, I can't find that '55 on TeleTrade, did it really sell? There were two that sold in December. I bought one and returned it. If it is the same one it might get returned again. It looked like an artificial frost job gone bad, it could have been natural (ugly) toning as I am no expert, but it didn't look good.

.......and i think you're talking about Hoyt, but how did i miss the early 70's listings and how come none of my good buddies shot over a PM alerting me?!?!?!?!?! image i guess it's a dog-eat-dog world and i just got taken to lunch, sad to say not as a guest.

i had noticed the 1955 DCAM and another 1954 earlier in the week, but i shall have to wait on some submission results to fill holes now. the prices on some of those would have been a tad bit higher had i known. oh well.........

  • I won several of those coins (69, 70, 72, and 75). I was happy with all the prices----each of these are pretty hard to find in 69DCAM, and in each case, the last one I've seen auctioned was quite a bit higher. Even the last 1975 I saw was close to $200, as I recall! This is really as series where the PCGS price guide makes no sense---it lists the 69 and 70 as $500 and $455 coins; and the 72 and 75 as $130 and $85. I don't think I believe any of these PCGS price guide prices----my bids were much closer to the market on all four from what I can tell of other recent auctions.

I don't know how I missed those, better check my search techniques. The 73 and 75 would have gone for more if I was around too.image
  • Carl:

The DCAM was sold recently on EBAY not Teletrade. Let me know if you can't find it.
