Coin show report: White Plains, NY

I just got back from the show in White Plains, NY. These Friday-Sunday shows are held 4 times a year (Oct., Nov., Jan., and April) and they feature about 100 dealers in Oct. and April and 150 dealers in Nov. and Jan.
This morning the show was very quiet. Several dealers were missing and floor traffic was very light. However, I talked to several dealers who said that although today was light, yesterday was surprisingly busy, with lots of floor traffic. (Usually, Saturday is the day the public comes out, except for the November show, which is just after Thanksgiving.)
I didn't see much that I was interested in. I was looking for slabbed no-motto Seated dollars and I only saw a few, all of which have been in the same dealer's inventory for a year or more. I did see a decent amount of no-motto Coronet gold, especially eagles, but only a few O-mint coins, most of which I'd seen before.
To my surprise, I did see several old tenor half eagles, perhaps as many as 10 pieces, about 5 raw and 5 slabbed, roughly. I also saw several dealers who had a lot of Colonial coppers and early large cents and half cents. Although Type I double eagles were in very short supply (I only saw two or three, all Civil War years), I did see perhaps 7 mint-marked quarter eagles, including three S-mint coins from the late 1860s. I saw at least three slabbed Pan Pac quarter eagles, two of which were MS-65. I also saw a really sweet PCGS-40 1836 Gobrecht dollar.
All-in-all, I thought it was an unusually quiet show, and didn't really see many new coins, and I was hoping to see a lot of new coins from FUN. Oh well.

However, I remember thinking that the Thanksgiving show was a bit slow, too.
It's a bit surprising, considering that the Parsippany, NJ show (about 50 miles away) is so busy.

On the whole, though, I do find that the October and November shows are the best of the four (except that ANACS comes to the January show) and the April show has been the least of the four.
