Lucy (or other franklin people)-educate me, please

What is the difference between type 1 and type 2? Does this only apply to 1956?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Yes, It only appears on the 56 Proof. The 1st 56 proofs that were made used the original master die, the reverse will match all proofs from 1950-55. The Type 2 will match all proofs from 57-63. So whats the difference? The type 2 has more definition on the Eagle next to the Liberty bell. The feathers have more details. However, the details on the Liberty Bell are less defined then the type 1.

Keets posted a great informational piece about this. It had to do with the number of wing feathers that are visible past the end of the perch that the eagle stands on.

I'll see if I can find it.

If Keets can repost, it will save some effort.

Here is a type 1 just scanned from my Registry set. Notice the weakness in the eagle.

Now here is a DCAM 56 type 2, notice all the detail, in the breast feathers, in the wings.

Again, all proofs from 1950 - 55 are type one and will look like the 1st photo.

All proofs from 57 - 63 will look like the 2nd photo, if one finds a 1956 type 1 in any kind of CAM, that is a very nice score! Happy hunting!
